A very rare case of severe calcification in brain is reported. A 49-year-old man was hit and run by a motorcar in acrossing a road on foot, and he died 1 hour later in an emergency hospital. The prevalence of seizure disorder diagnosis in the general population is between 0.5% and 2.0%. Seizures may be manifested by abnormal motor activity, loss of muscle tone, and changes in mental status. In an unselected series of 488 patients with head injuries referred to a general surgical department, there were 126 children aged 0-19 years whose head injuries were a result of traffic accidents. In age group 0-4 years, only 23% of the head injuries were due to traffic accidents. OBJECTIVE: This study assessed the socio-demographic and experiential determinants of observed and self-reported helmet use among motorcyclists in northern Ghana.
METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 381 motorcyclists at twelve randomly selected fuel stations in Tamale in March-April, 2021. Motorcyclists were first observed on actual helmet use and then interviewed face-to-face. We aimed to use the willingness to pay (WTP) method to calculate the cost of traffic injuries in Iran in 2013. We conducted a cross-sectional questionnaire-based study of 846 randomly selected road users. WTP data was collected for four scenarios for vehicle occupants, pedestrians, vehicle drivers, and motorcyclists. Final analysis was carried out using Weibull and maximum likelihood method. We report here the case of a death following blunt trauma to the head in which the victim immediately became unconscious and remained unconscious until death. Scapulothoracic dissociation (SCTD) is a rare clinical entity with fewer than 70 cases reported in English literature. The mechanism of injury is severe rotational force, which causes disruption of the shoulder girdle from the rest of chest wall. Frequently, SCTD produces massive blood loss as it involves major fractures of the upper extremity, disruption of muscle, brachial plexus, and vascular damage. This case report demonstrates classical radiological findings of SCTD with brachial plexus injury but with no associated vascular damage.
