A case of severe methanol intoxication (1300 mg/L) was associated with markedly increased serum creatinine (490 mg/L) despite normal urea values and the absence of any other signs of renal disease. These values declined progressively to normal, and the patient recovered with no visual impairment. Crystalluria in a three-month-old male infant with a history of intermittent vomiting since birth and incipient coma led to the discovery of orotic aciduria. A new Schiff base containing sulphur, 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-(alpha-furoyl) pyrazolone-5-thiosemicarbazone (HL) and its Zn(II), Cd(II) and Co(II) complexes have been synthesized. On the basis of elemental analysis and molar conductance, the general formulae of the complexes, [ZnL2] x 1.5H2O, [CdL2] x C2H5OH and [CoL2] x H2O, were given. Cadmium and lead were conjugated to two carrier proteins using a bifunctional chelator [2-(4-aminobenzyl)-diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid] to synthesize artificial antigens for cadmium and lead.
