Sarcoidosis is a disease that causes noncaseating granulomas in tissues such as the lungs, heart, skin, and eyes. Sarcoidosis is often found through chest x-ray or lesions in the skin and eyes. In over half of patients the disease is detected incidentally by radiographic abnormalities on a routing chest x-ray prior to development of any symptoms. PURPOSE: The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of uveal effusion in acute primary angle closure (APAC), chronic primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG), and primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG).
METHODS: A total of 152 consecutive patients (287 eyes) with APAC, PACG, and POAG were enrolled in this prospective and observational case series study. We report the case of a 32-year-old male who presented with an acute myopic shift as a result of uveal effusion following a single administration of 250 mg acetazolamide. The drug was discontinued and following cycloplegia and topical steroid therapy, we observed progressive deepening of the anterior chamber, reopening of the iridocorneal angle, and complete resolution of the myopic shift after 5 days. BACKGROUND: Malignant glaucoma, caused by aqueous misdirection, is a challenging post-surgical complication presented with normal/high intraocular pressure and shallowing of the central and peripheral anterior chambers.
