A case of allergic contact dermatitis to mustard (Brassica nigra) in a salad maker is reported. The sources of skin contact included a commercial salad cream, a vinegrette, and various members of the mustard family, Cruciferae. The Cruciferae family includes many salad vegetables and condiments which contain allergenic isothiocyanates. The extent of skin contact among salad makers and other food handlers may be significant, and sensitization to isothiocyanates from this large family of vegetables may be an important cause of food contact allergy in these individuals.

The prevalence of viral warts on the hands was found to be the same in a group of 113 workers in butcher's shops as in a control group of 115 mechanics. This low prevalence is discussed and statistically compared to previous studies in the literature.

Occupational rehabilitation of eczema patients depends almost as much upon psycho-social as medical factors. Age, duration of previous disability, social program support, motivation and intellectual ability of patients, other organic diseases and type of eczema are the most important factors in rehabilitation success. Principles, methods and results of a dermatological rehabilitation program established at the Erlangen Dermatological Clinic since 1974 are briefly reviewed. This "Erlanger Rehabilitationsprogramm" takes into account, besides dermatological aspects, as well as ergotherapeutic, ps

A patient with epidermolysis bullosa acquisita (EBA) associated with Crohn's disease is presented. The clinical, histological and immunological findings were in keeping with previous reports. However, clinically normal skin and mucosa exhibited deposits of IgG and C3 in the basement-membrane zone. These deposits remained unchanged during the treatment period. It is therefore suggested that immunological mechanisms are implicated in pathogenesis of the disease.

Occupational dermatoses impose a significant socioeconomic burden. Allergic contact dermatitis related to occupation is prevalent among healthcare workers, cleaning service personnel, individuals in the beauty industry and industrial workers. Among risk factors, the exposure to preservatives is frequent, since they are extensively added in products for occupational use. The goal of this study is to investigate the contact allergy patterns in order to understand the linkage among hypersensitivity to preservatives, occupational profiles, patients' clinical and demographic characteristics. BACKGROUND: The distribution of atopic dermatitis (AD) lesions and its impact on quality of life (QOL) is not well established in the US adult population.
OBJECTIVE: To elucidate the distribution of AD lesions and its impact on QOL in US adults with AD.
METHODS: A cross-sectional, population-based study of 602 adults was performed. AD was determined using modified UK Diagnostic Criteria, and its lesional distribution was assessed. QOL was assessed using Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI). Latent class analysis (LCA) was used to determine distinct phenotypes of AD lesional distribution. Mu

The aim of this study was to evaluate the skin problems and dermatological life quality of the health care workers (HCWs) due to personal protection equipment (PPE) use, who are at high risk for COVID-19 infection. A questionnaire about HCWs' PPE use, their skin symptoms, and prevention, management methods and Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) was fulfilled. The median age of 440 participants was 33.5 (21.0-65.0) years old. Skin problems were found to be 90.2%, the most common were dryness, itching, cracking, burning, flaking, peeling and lichenification. The presence of skin problems (P <

BACKGROUND: Contact dermatoses are common in mechanic and repair occupations.
OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to (1) estimate the prevalence of occupationally related contact dermatitis among mechanics/repairers patch tested from 1998 to 2014 by the North American Contact Dermatitis Group, (2) characterize responsible allergens and irritants, and their sources, and (3) compare results among 3 occupational subgroups (mechanics, electrical/electronic, and other).
METHODS: A cross-sectional analysis of patients patch tested by the North American Contact Dermatitis Group between 1998 and 2014.

The number and nature of allergic occupational glove dermatoses were analysed. 542 cases of allergic contact dermatosis were diagnosed during 1974-1983. Amongst these, 68 (12.5%) were caused by rubber or plastic gloves. 2 patients had contact urticaria due to rubber gloves. Gloves were the main cause of occupational allergic rubber eczema, inducing 63 (58.3%) of 108 rubber eczema cases. 38 of them had positive reactions to rubber chemicals and glove material, 14 to glove material only, and 11 to rubber chemicals. 5 cases of allergic eczema from plastic gloves were diagnosed, all due to polyvin

Skin diseases constitute a major health problem affecting a high proportion of the population every day and have different aetiologies that include inflammation, infections, and tumours. Hydrogen sulfide (H2 S) is a gaseous signalling molecule recognized as a gasotransmitter together with NO and carbon monoxide. Under physiological conditions, H2 S is produced in the skin by enzymic pathways and plays a physiological role in a variety of functions, such as vasodilatation, cell proliferation, apoptosis, and inflammation. Alterations of H2 S production are implicated in a variety of dermatologic

The transition metal nickel is a very common cause of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). In the general population, adults with hand eczema have a high incidence of allergy to nickel, and nickel allergy is high in occupational dermatoses and is often linked to wet work. Nickel may be found as a trace contaminant in some consumer products, e.g., household cleaning agents. It has therefore been debated whether these levels, whilst not a primary cause, might be sufficient to maintain ACD. The minimal concentration of nickel in patch tests on normal skin that will elicit an allergic reaction in hi

The presence of polymorphonuclear neutrophils (PMN) is a constant feature of Psoriatic epidermis. The reasons for this migratory activity are not clear and may be related to the presence of chemotaxigens or chemoattractants (circulating immune complexes, complement split products, or arachidonic acid metabolites) in serum and/or epidermis. On the other hand, functional abnormalities of psoriatic PMN may play a significant role as well. PMN chemotaxis, e.g., against increased chemoattractants has been found to be significantly increased in psoriasis. On the basis of these findings it may be sug

Onychomycosis, a fungal nail infection, is primarily caused by dermatophytes, yeasts, and non-dermatophyte moulds (NDMs). The incidence of this disease and the predominance of specific pathogens vary across different regions and evolve. This study aimed to elucidate the epidemiology of onychomycosis and the pattern of causative pathogens in Beijing, and to ascertain the in vitro antifungal susceptibility profiles of Trichophyton rubrum against itraconazole (ITR), terbinafine (TER), and fluconazole (FLU). Involving 245 patients of onychomycosis with positive fungal culture results, the study im
