The aim of the present work was to analyze the impact of salinity on the plant response to Cd toxicity in the Mediterranean halophyte species Inula crithmoides. For this purpose, cuttings were cultivated hydroponically during 21d in the presence of 0, 25 or 50μM CdCl2 combined or not with 0, 100, 200 and 400mM NaCl. BACKGROUND: Tests commonly used in the diagnosis of onychomycosis include potassium hydroxide (KOH) preparation, histopathological examination with periodic acid-Schiff stain (PAS) and culture. These tests are either time-consuming or require specially trained personnel. A recently developed polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay has the potential to provide a quick, inexpensive, operator-independent diagnosis of onychomycosis.
OBJECTIVE: To determine the range of fungal species detected by the PCR technique and to compare this technique with KOH, PAS and culture on patient specimens.

A study was made on the water quality of the rivers in Mongolia over the years 1949-1990 for the three river basins in the country. In most of the 72 monitoring stations, the water quality is governed by geological and hydrological characteristics; bicarbonate and calcium are the most abundant major ions.
