A scalable approach for developing clinical risk prediction applications in different hospitals.

OBJECTIVE: Machine learning (ML) algorithms are now widely used in predicting acute events for clinical applications. While most of such prediction applications are developed to predict the risk of a particular acute event at one hospital, few efforts have been made in extending the developed solutions to other events or to different hospitals. We provide a scalable solution to extend the process of clinical risk prediction model development of multiple diseases and their deployment in different Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We defined a generic process for c

Testing mapping algorithms of the cancer-specific EORTC QLQ-C30 onto EQ-5D in malignant mesothelioma.

BackgroundIn order to estimate utilities for cancer studies where the EQ-5D was not used, the EORTC QLQ-C30 can be used to estimate EQ-5D using existing mapping algorithms. Several mapping algorithms exist for this transformation, however, algorithms tend to lose accuracy in patients in poor health states. The aim of this study was to test all existing mapping algorithms of QLQ-C30 onto EQ-5D, in a dataset of patients with malignant pleural mesothelioma, an invariably fatal malignancy where no previous mapping estimation has been published.MethodsHealth related quality of life (HRQoL) data whe

Precision Unveiled in Unborn: A Cutting-Edge Hybrid Machine Learning Approach for Fetal Health State Classification.

PURPOSE: Understanding and categorizing fetal health is an influential field of research that profoundly impacts the well-being of both mother and child. The primary desire to precisely examine and cure fetal disorders during pregnancy to enhance fetal and maternal outcomes is the driving force behind the classification of fetal health. Fetal cardiac abnormalities (structural or functional) need immediate doctor attention, and their early identification and detection in all stages of pregnancy can help doctors with the timely treatment of the mother and the unborn child by enabling appropriate

Performance comparison of nonlinear and linear regression algorithms coupled with different attribute selection methods for quantitative structure - retention relationships modelling in micellar liquid chromatography.

In micellar liquid chromatography (MLC), the addition of a surfactant to the mobile phase in excess is accompanied by an alteration of its solubilising capacity and a change in the stationary phase's properties. As an implication, the prediction of the analytes' retention in MLC mode becomes a challenging task. Mixed Quantitative Structure - Retention Relationships (QSRR) modelling represents a powerful tool for estimating the analytes' retention. This study compares 48 successfully developed mixed QSRR models with respect to their ability to predict retention of aripiprazole and its five impu

Predicting isocitrate dehydrogenase mutation status in acute myeloid leukemia from gene expression profiles by machine learning.

We developed machine-learning models to predict isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) mutation status in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) from gene expression profiles and to reconstruct missing IDH annotations across public datasets. Transcriptomic data from 19 cohorts (5844 samples) were harmonized using batch correction, and 1546 samples with known IDH status were used to train a feed-forward neural network and a logistic regression (LR) classifier within a nested cross-validation framework, followed by independent validation in the TCGA-LAML dataset. The LR model showed superior performance, achievin

Predicting sub-clinical risk of complex PTSD in adolescents using multi-informant ecological data: A machine learning approach.

BACKGROUND: Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) is a significant mental health concern in adolescents, however traditional diagnostic tools often fail to capture early risk patterns. Adolescence is a unique developmental window marked by neurobiological remodeling and heightened interpersonal sensitivity. This study aims to move beyond binary clinical diagnosis toward a subclinical prevention framework by predicting continuous CPTSD symptom severity using multidimensional ecological data. METHODS: The data were collected from a triad of 4177 Chinese adolescents and their parents. A

A fuzzy time-series driven ensemble approach for accurate forecasting of higher education rankings.

The global education system comprises many technical and non-technical institutions. The selection of an institute plays a very important role in shaping the career of a student. With such a massive number of choices out there, the decision of which institution to go to will be a huge challenge for parents as well as students. Unexpected events such as the Covid-19 pandemic even disrupted global higher education highlighting infrastructural gaps and pedagogical limitations in knowledge delivery through sudden transitions to remote learning. Institutions were financially unstable with reduction

Development and validation of a multimodal machine learning prediction model for heart failure after acute myocardial infarction.

Heart failure after acute myocardial infarction (post-MI HF) has become a major global health problem. Accurate risk prediction is essential for optimising management and preventing post-MI HF. However, existing models rely mainly on resting-state clinical examinations and inadequately reflect the complex pathophysiology of post-MI HF. We aimed to develop and validate a multimodal machine learning (ML) model incorporating cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) data to predict post-MI HF risk and to quantify CPET's incremental value. This study included 3172 acute myocardial infarction (AMI) pa

Interpretable machine learning for postoperative nausea and vomiting prediction in elderly orthopedic patients: a comparative study.

BACKGROUND: Postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) prolongs hospitalization and reduces patient satisfaction. Identifying high-risk elderly patients requires accurate absolute risk assessments, yet existing tools often lack probability calibration and transparency. METHODS: We included 1216 elderly patients undergoing elective hip or knee surgery. To strictly prevent data leakage, the dataset was partitioned into training, validation, and independent test sets in a 7:1:2 ratio prior to any imputation or feature selection. Following the systematic hyperparameter optimization of 12 distinct m

Trustworthy AI for medical decisions: Adversarially robust and fair machine learning prediction for Parkinson's disease.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms, including tremor, rigidity, and postural instability. Machine learning (ML) models have shown promise for the diagnosis of PD; however, many existing approaches do not explicitly address fairness and robustness. As a result, these models can lead to biased outcomes across demographic groups and vulnerability to adversarial attacks. In this study, we used the Parkinson's Progression Markers Initiative (PPMI) cohort, which includes clinical and demographic information from 1,084 participants s
