Radiation-Associated Lung Adenosquamous Carcinoma Diagnosed by Robotic-Assisted Bronchoscopy With Cone-Beam CT Guidance and Treated With Robotic Superior Segmentectomy: A Case Report.

Prior thoracic or chest-wall radiotherapy carries a small but meaningful risk of second primary malignancy after a prolonged latency period. Chronic post-radiation changes may also complicate the evaluation of new pulmonary lesions, particularly when fibrosis, traction bronchiectasis, and architectural distortion are present. Advances in robotic-assisted bronchoscopy combined with radial endobronchial ultrasound (rEBUS), augmented fluoroscopy, and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) may facilitate localization and tissue diagnosis of suspicious peripheral pulmonary lesions in this setting. We

Safety and efficacy of the Chinese surgical robotic system (EDGE MP1000 & MP2000) for robot-assisted radical prostatectomy: results from a single high-volume center.

Robotic surgical systems have revolutionized minimally invasive procedures, offering enhanced three-dimensional visualization, high precision, and stable operation, particularly beneficial for radical prostatectomy. However, high costs have hindered the adoption of robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) in grassroots hospitals in China. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of the EDGE Surgical Robotic System in performing RARP. A total of 129 patients who underwent RARP at our center between November 2023 and March 2025 were analyzed, with outcomes assessed i

Single-Port Robot-Assisted Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy Using the Single-Port Robotic System via the Subcostal Approach: A Single-Center Retrospective Study.

BACKGROUND: Robot-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy (RAMIE) has gained global popularity. Recent randomized controlled trials have demonstrated that RAMIE results in reduced operative times and a greater number of dissected lymph nodes compared to conventional minimally invasive esophagectomy (MIE). This study provides an initial analysis of single-port (SP) robot-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy (SRAMIE) using the SP robotic system via the subcostal approach. The primary objective is to examine perioperative outcomes of SRAMIE compared to multi-port RAMIE (MRAMIE) using the X

Total Robot-Assisted Minimally Invasive Esophagectomy for De Novo Esophageal Cancer after Liver Transplantation: The Potential of Robotic Surgery in a Complex Posttransplant Case.

The malignancy risk has increased following improvements in the long-term survival rates after liver transplantation. Reports show a 23.4-fold increase in the risk of de novo esophageal cancer after liver transplantation compared to the general population. We report the case of a 47-year-old female diagnosed with early esophageal cancer after liver transplantation. Endoscopic submucosal dissection was performed; however, due to it being a noncurative resection, additional treatment was required. Total robot-assisted minimally invasive esophagectomy (RAMIE) was performed using a robot for thora

A comparative direct cost analysis of pediatric urologic robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery versus open surgery: could robot-assisted surgery be less expensive?

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Cost in healthcare is an increasing and justifiable concern that impacts decisions about the introduction of new devices such as the da Vinci(®) surgical robot. Because equipment expenses represent only a portion of overall medical costs, we set out to make more specific cost comparisons between open and robot-assisted laparoscopic surgery. MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed a retrospective, observational, matched cohort study of 146 pediatric patients undergoing either open or robot-assisted laparoscopic urologic surgery from October 2004 to September 2009 at a singl

Autonomous robotic operation controlled by wave-based neuromorphic hardware.

Equipping robots with a physical, brain-inspired computing unit is a key step towards achieving true autonomy in intelligent machines; however, the practical realization of such neuromorphic hardware remains a major challenge. Because both software- and hardware-based spiking neural network approaches demand substantial training and energy consumption, an architecturally simple neuromorphic platform is required to enable scalable and energy-efficient robotics. Here, we experimentally demonstrate robotic control driven by a neuromorphic hardware based on physical wave interactions. Using a wate…

Boundary Guided Liquid-Bridge Adhesion for Robotic Pick-and-Release.

Liquid-bridge-mediated adhesion provides conformal contact with rough surfaces and gentle interaction with fragile microstructures, making it attractive for object manipulation. However, controlling liquid-bridge formation and retraction under non-ideal interfacial conditions remains challenging. Here, we report a switchable liquid-bridge adhesion strategy using a two-tiered stamp with spatially patterned wettability. Boundary-guided pinning confines liquid spreading to form a stable bridge for pickup and guides liquid retraction toward bridge breakup for controlled release. This design conver

[Research on Quality Control Testing Methods for Laparoscopic Surgical Robots].

To address the lack of quality and safety evaluation criteria and the inconsistency of testing methods in the clinical application of laparoscopic surgical robots, this study developed a scientific and operable testing method system based on a four-dimensional framework of "device appearance and function-electrical safety-image quality-robotic arm and surgical instruments". By identifying risk points of 21 core indicators, such as leakage current and horizontal/vertical resolution, and referencing standards such as YY/T 1712-2021 to determine the testing principles, the testing tools, operatio

Magneto-controllable cell robots for targeted myocardial infarction repair.

Myocardial infarction (MI) triggers irreversible cardiomyocyte loss, maladaptive remodeling, and heart failure processes exacerbated by insufficient endogenous angiogenesis and unresolved inflammation. While pro-angiogenic therapies hold promise, their clinical translation is hindered by poor lesion targeting, subtherapeutic drug accumulation, and transient bioactivity. To overcome these barriers, we engineered "magnetically guided cellular robots", M2a-polarized macrophages intracellularly loaded with superparamagnetic Fe3O4 nanoparticles and genetically programmed for sustained VEGF secretio

Automated mastering of holographic waveguide displays with robot-mounted optics.

Automated recording of holographic waveguide displays is limited by the simultaneous need for highly adjustable beam angles exceeding the waveguide's critical angle and centimeter-scale recording beams. We report the first automated holographic waveguide recording platform, to our knowledge, combining two six-axis robot-mounted collimators with a custom edge-lit prism system. Exposure poses are computed from target grating vectors, including shrinkage compensation and polarization alignment, using inverse ray tracing and robot kinematics. Calibration yields mean angular accuracy better than 0.

Inpatient Nurses' Anticipatory Perspectives on Assistive Robots: Qualitative Study.

BACKGROUND: Assistive robots have been proposed to support nursing work by offloading routine, logistical, and physically demanding tasks. However, existing research has largely focused on postimplementation acceptance or usability, with fewer studies examining how nurses conceptualize assistive robots before routine deployment, particularly in settings where exposure remains limited. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to explore inpatient nurses' anticipatory perspectives on assistive robots and to examine how perceived benefits, concerns, and implementation conditions are constructed at the preimp

Space exploration is a major global focus, advancing knowledge and exploiting new resources beyond Earth. Bioinspired design-drawing principles from nature-offers systematic pathways to increase the capability and intelligence of space robots. Prior reviews have emphasized on-orbit manipulators or lunar rovers, while a comprehensive treatment across application domains has been limited. This review synthesizes bioinspired capability and intelligence for space exploration under varied environmental constraints. We highlight four domains: adhesion and grasping for on-orbit servicing; terrain-ada
