Developmental Trajectories of Cyber Aggression and their Longitudinal Associations with Violence Exposure Among Chinese Adolescents: The Longitudinal Moderating Role of Positive Rumination Across Gender.

Cyber aggression is a developmental concern during adolescence. Grounded in the General Aggression Model, this three-wave longitudinal study examined whether violence exposure was longitudinally associated with cyber aggression and whether positive rumination buffered these associations among Chinese adolescents. Participants included 3,108 students from 16 middle schools in Jiangxi Province, China, at bLongitudinal Moderating Role of Positive Rumination Across Genderaseline (54.9% girls; mean age = 14.41 years), of whom 2,904 completed all three waves across 6-month intervals. Latent growth m

A potential role for the middle temporal gyrus in mediating pain rumination in patients with chronic pain.

Perception of pain offset is essential to free one from any aftereffects of nociception. Because patients with chronic pain show impaired temporal contrast of pain, we tested whether they show slower perception of pain offset after the end of a nociceptive stimulus compared with pain-free subjects. We sought for cerebral correlates for offset and aftereffects of pain using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). In 19 patients with chronic pain and 15 pain-free subjects, we gave 10 blocks of pain stimuli by a Peltier-type thermal stimulator on the left volar forearm and recorded pain int

The role of emotion dysregulation and rumination in predicting premenstrual symptom severity in premenstrual disorders and elevated anxiety or depression.

Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) are prevalent and cause significant distress, yet their psychological mechanisms remain poorly understood. Previous research has linked emotion dysregulation with premenstrual symptoms, but it has often relied on retrospective self-reports, which are prone to bias, and rarely compared PMDD with the milder PMS. Additionally, past studies have not differentiated the heightened emotion dysregulation seen in PMDD from that typically observed in other affective conditions. To address these gaps, we examined the association betwe

Arousal grows up, arousal goes down. Emotion regulation, trait anxiety, rumination and worry as predictors of recovery time after mental imagery.

BACKGROUND: One key ingredient for guided imagery interventions' effectiveness is their capacity to increase emotional arousal. However, individual responses vary, as some people can have negative experiences that undermine treatment adherence or effectiveness. Research is needed to understand predictors of negative reactions to experiencing negative events during imagery. One idea suggests that some individuals struggle to return to baseline, making the experience unpleasant or distressing. Which predictors contribute to slower recovery after imagery of negative events? AIMS AND HYPOTHESIS:

Loneliness and rumination serially mediate the relationship between social anxiety and internet addiction among Turkish university students.

The widespread use of the internet brings with it both advantages and disadvantages. The current research sought to investigate the serial mediating role of loneliness and rumination in the link between social anxiety and internet addiction. This study consisted of 1,717 Turkish university students. The participants' mean age was 21.70 (SD = 1.90). The findings indicated that social anxiety was positively related to internet addiction. Loneliness served as a mediator in the link between social anxiety and internet addiction. Rumination mediated the effect of social anxiety on internet addictio

Rumination in patients with major depressive disorder before and after antidepressant treatment.

BACKGROUND: Rumination is a maladaptive response to distress characteristic of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). It is unclear to what degree rumination is associated with depression severity prior to treatment and how it responds to antidepressant treatment. Therefore, we evaluated the association between rumination and depression severity in 92 untreated patients with MDD and explored the changes in rumination after initiation of antidepressant medication. METHOD: We measured rumination using the Rumination Response Scale (RRS) and depression severity with the Hamilton Depression Rating Scal

Response styles to positive affect during a positive psychology intervention for veterans with PTSD and moral injury: Preliminary results from a moral elevation intervention pilot trial.

OBJECTIVE: Veterans with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or moral injury are at risk of maladaptive response styles to positive emotions, such as emotional numbing. A potential pathway to target problematic responses to positive affect is a positive psychology intervention that elicits moral elevation-feeling inspired after witnessing someone perform a virtuous act. This study aims to examine responses to positive affect in a pilot trial of a web-based moral elevation intervention titled, MOVED: Moral Elevation Online Intervention for Veterans Experiencing Distress Related to PTSD and Mor

Attention control mediates the relationship between mental imagery vividness and emotion regulation.

Contradictory findings suggest mental imagery may both exacerbate and protect against negative affect. We aimed to reconcile these contradictory findings by considering individual differences (N=989) in imagery vividness, attention control, resilience, emotion regulation strategy, and negative affect (depressive, anxious, and posttraumatic stress symptomology). We hypothesized that attention control would mediate relationships between imagery vividness and emotion regulation strategy use, and psychopathology symptomology. Results revealed that imagery vividness, as mediated by attention contro

The role of leisure crafting for emotional exhaustion in telework during the COVID-19 pandemic.

BACKGROUND: After the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020, many employees transitioned from in-office work to telework to slow down the spread of the virus. Building on the Job Demands-Resources model, we examined day-level relationships between job demands, home demands and emotional exhaustion during telework. Moreover, we tested if leisure crafting (i.e., the proactive pursuit and enactment of leisure activities targeted at goal setting, socializing, growth and development) is negatively related to emotional exhaustion. We expected that proactive personality would be positively related t

Hypostability in the default mode network and hyperstability in the frontoparietal control network of dynamic functional architecture during rumination.

The neural underpinnings of rumination can be characterized by its specific dynamic nature. Temporal stability is the stable and consistent representation of information by a distributed neural activity and connectivity pattern across brain regions. Although stability is a key feature of the brain's functional architecture, its profiles supporting rumination remain elusive. We characterized the stability of the whole-brain functional architecture during an induced, continuous rumination state and compared it with a well-constrained distraction state as the control condition in a group of healt

Effect of Ketamine on Rumination in Treatment-Resistant Depressive Patients.

BACKGROUND: A rapid antidepressant effect of ketamine has repeatedly been documented in the literature, and identifying clinical features associated with a better response to this treatment is currently an essential question. Considering the relationship between rumination and depression and the need to identify potential predictors of response to ketamine, we analyzed the effect of a single injection of ketamine 0.5 mg/kg on rumination in treatment-resistant depressive (TRD) patients and explored whether baseline ruminative style and early improvements of rumination would predict a greater an

The associations among self-criticism, hopelessness, rumination, and NSSI in adolescents: A moderated mediation model.

INTRODUCTION: Nonsuicidal self-injury (NSSI) is a pervasive public health problem among adolescents. Self-criticism has been identified as an important risk factor for NSSI. Potential mediators of the relationship between self-criticism and NSSI and potential moderators that may exacerbate or buffer this association, however, have seldom been explored. The current study tested the mediating effect of hopelessness and the moderating effect of rumination. METHODS: 915 Chinese participants (405 girls; mean age = 15.85, SD = 1.47) were recruited from junior and senior high schools. They completed

The effects of source and concentration of dietary fiber, starch, and fatty acids on the daily patterns of feed intake, rumination, and rumen pH in dairy cows.

The daily patterns of feed intake and rumination influence rumen fermentation, rumen pH, and timing of absorbed nutrients in the dairy cow, but the effects of diet composition on these patterns are not well characterized. Data from 3 previously published experiments were examined to determine the influence of dietary starch, fiber, and fatty acids (FA) on daily patterns of intake, rumination, and rumen pH. Dietary neutral detergent fiber (NDF) and starch were investigated in 2 experiments, each with duplicated 4 × 4 Latin square designs with a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of treatments in cows

Stressors and anxiety in dementia caregiving: multiple mediation analysis of rumination, experiential avoidance, and leisure.

BACKGROUND: Despite the robust associations between stressors and anxiety in dementia caregiving, there is a lack of research examining which factors contribute to explain this relationship. This study was designed to test a multiple mediation model of behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD) and anxiety that proposes higher levels of rumination and experiential avoidance and lower levels of leisure satisfaction as potential mediating variables. METHODS: The sample consisted of 256 family caregivers. In order to test a simultaneously parallel multiple mediation model of the BP

The association between attention control, anxiety, and depression: the indirect effects of repetitive negative thinking and mood recovery.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Attention control deficits and repetitive negative thinking (RNT; i.e., rumination) may be key factors in the development and persistence of depression and anxiety, although their role in symptom development remains poorly understood. This represents a gap in the literature, as interventions targeting attention control and associated RNT may enhance interventions and prevent costly relapse. The current study was designed to examine the serial indirect effects of transdiagnostic RNT and negative affect recovery following a lab-induced stressor on the association betwe
