We describe 2 Arab patients, both offspring of unrelated consanguineous matings, with unusual facial appearance, severe mental retardation, microcephaly, cortical atrophy, seizures, hypotonia, dwarfism, and recurrent infections with neutrophilia. Studies on blood samples from a 30-year-old woman of Korean origin, her husband and children, showed the presence of the cis-AB genotype in the mother and one child. The cis-AB red cells showed abnormal reactions with both polyclonal and monoclonal anti-B reagents and an elevated level of H antigen. The serum contained weak anti-B that reacted with normal B antigen but not with that on cis-AB cells. Normal levels of A substance but reduced levels of B and H substances were present in the saliva. Conversely, the serum showed reduced A and normal B and H blood group transferase activity.

Heredity predisposition was analysed in cancer and precancer stomach diseases in distinct populations. Some phenotypic and genetic characters of the stomach "precancer--cancer" system were studied. Similarity in the degree of stomach cancer inheritance, its segregation frequency and recurrent risk was revealed for populations. However, the degree of correlation between cancer and precancer stomach disease was different in distinct populations, this being more pronounced in "cancer--gastric ulcer" system.

The expressivity of carcinoembryogenic antigen CEA and ABO(H) isoantigens is studied in a group of 40 pelvic and ureteral transitional cell carcinomas. CEA was not shown to be a tumor marker since it is not found in all tumors whereas it is demonstrated in a case of cystic pyelitis. Nevertheless, it seems to be associated with certain prognostic morphologic markers, i.e., grading and vascular invasion. We studied 83 women younger than 46 years with acute myocardial infarction (MI) and 154 controls. The provision of blood for transfusing patients whose sera contain red cell autoantibodies requires considerable expertise.
