Versatile use of submental tissue for reconstruction of perioral soft tissue defects.

To obtain optimum aesthetic result, perioral soft tissue defects require reconstruction using similar tissue. The submental area has very similar characteristics to perioral soft tissue and consists of thin, pliable tissue with a perfect color match. Therefore, we have used submental tissues for reconstruction of perioral soft tissue defects and application of the techniques, and results are discussed in this article. Between February 2001 and April 2008, 14 perioral soft tissue reconstruction procedures using the submental tissues were performed. The defect was on the upper lip including nasa

Free composite myo-osseous flap with serratus anterior and rib: indications in head and neck reconstruction.

BACKGROUND: Although the microvascular transfer of the serratus/rib myo-osseous composite flap has been previously described, the indications for its use in head and neck reconstruction have not been fully explored. Slender and easily contoured, rib bone offers reconstructive advantages over other bone sources under certain circumstances. The serratus/rib myo-osseous flap can provide vascularized muscle, bone, and cartilage; in combination with the latissimus dorsi muscle, the serratus/rib flap provides additional soft-tissue bulk on a single thoracodorsal vascular pedicle unrestricted by orie

Finite Element Assessment of a Novel Patient-Specific Mandibular Implant for Severely Atrophic Ridge.

Purpose: Dental reconstruction for patients diagnosed with severe mandibular bone atrophy using common dental implants is a challenging process. In such cases, surgeons may encounter challenges such as insufficient available bone, soft tissue, damage to the inferior alveolar nerve, and even the risk of bone fracture. In this study, a new design concept of mandibular patient-specific implants for severely atrophic ridges followed by finite element evaluation was presented to investigate the mechanical functionality of the concept. Method: The implant is comprised of two modular parts including

Late Extraosseous Recurrence of Plexiform Ameloblastoma Presenting with Airway Compromise: A Case Report.

Ameloblastoma is a benign but locally aggressive odontogenic tumor with a high recurrence potential. Extraosseous recurrence is rare and may pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. We report a case of late extraosseous recurrence of plexiform ameloblastoma presenting with airway compromise in a 50-year-old male, 8 years after segmental mandibular resection and reconstruction. The lesion occupied the floor of the mouth and right submandibular space, producing tongue displacement and significant airway narrowing without radiological evidence of osseous involvement. Due to anticipated airway

Cone -beam computed tomographic (CBCT) analysis of root canal volume changes with OneShape, standard Mani -silk and BlueFlex acer file: An in vivo study.

Over-instrumentation can result in excessive and inappropriate dentin removal, especially in root canals with complex internal anatomy. Therefore, it is of interest to evaluate changes in root canal volume of permanent mandibular premolars after preparation with OneShape, Standard Mani-Silk and Blueflex Acer file using CBCT and 3D reconstruction. Hence, 45 teeth were divided into three groups, instrumented with the respective file systems and pre- and post-instrumentation canal volumes were measured using Blue Sky Plan and MeshMixer software. The results showed that all file systems significan
