A 64-year-old patient with open-angle glaucoma was treated with timolol following two unsuccessful filtering procedures. While on timolol therapy, she developed three episodes of choroidal detachment, hypotony and shallow anterior chamber. These findings resolved upon cessation of timolol and reappeared on 3 occasions shortly after reinstitution of the beta blocker therapy.

The occurrence of chronic postoperative glaucoma in 502 consecutive penetrating keratoplasty cases performed in 421 patients during 1978 through 1986 was 18% (91 cases). Immediate postoperative glaucoma occurred in 9% (44 cases) and progressive angle closure occurred in 2% (13 cases) of keratoplasties. Statistically significant risk factors for development of glaucoma were preexisting glaucoma and aphakia. PURPOSE: To compare the efficacy of trabeculotomy (TO) and that of goniotomy (GO) as a primary surgical procedure in congenital glaucoma.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We retrospectively analyzed 39 eyes of 22 children with congenital glaucoma who underwent TO with or without a small trabeculectomy. The results were compared to data on 34 eyes of 21 children who underwent GO for congenital glaucoma.
