Grief rumination, characterised by repetitive thinking about the loss and its causes and consequences, is linked to various psychopathological symptoms, including prolonged grief disorder (PGD). This paper presents an emerging understanding of the psychodynamics of suicide loss, derived from over 1500 accounts of suicide bereavement shared by families, friends and clinicians. The present study assessed the impact of suicide and distress on suicidal ideation in a sample of 93 Portuguese family members bereaved by suicide. A control community sample of 102 adults also participated. After controlling for educational level, those bereaved by the suicide of a family member were found to have higher levels of suicidal ideation. Three psychosocial factors were examined for their ability to reduce depressive symptomatology among a sample of 79 spousally bereaved elders. METHODS: Self referred bereaved relatives of patients with epilepsy who had died suddenly were interviewed with information obtained substantiated through other sources-namely, coroners' officers' reports, postmortem reports, previous medical records, and EEG reports.

We studied recently bereaved individuals with the corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) stimulation test.
