Dinosaur bones, 80 million years old, were studied in the scanning electron microscope, and subjected to X-ray microanalysis. Samples for the investigations were prepared according to specially elaborated, and simultaneously described methods. Analysed were (a) the morphological structure of the blood vessels and (b) the remains of their contents. Hypotony is a common complication following trabeculectomy in which antimetabolites are used. Autologous blood injection is an accepted form of treatment for hypotony that occurs secondary to overfiltration; however, injection into the filtering bleb has been associated with a rise in intraocular pressure for some patients with chronic postoperative hypotony. The authors describe a patient in whom corneal blood staining with raised intraocular pressure and loss of vision occurred as a result of autologous blood injection.

A transfusion reaction was observed with blood warmed by a microwave blood warmer. Analysis of the blood remaining in the bag excluded the possibility of incompatibility but revealed hemolysis and clot formation which was attributed to overheating by the blood warmer.

The changes that occur in the cerebral circulation with chronic hypertension are important when considering the therapeutic possibilities in treating patients with severe hypertension. Eight isolates of micrococci from the bloodstream of six patients obtained under circumstances suggesting a pathogenic role were studied in detail. The organisms were remarkably uniform in cultural, biochemical and antibiotic-susceptibility characters. All strains showed high resistance to methicillin and hydrolysed arginine. The characters found did not correspond with those of any hitherto described species, but were closest to Micrococcus lylae.
