[Nedocromil sodium as a topical treatment of allergic conjunctivitis due to grasses].

Thirty-two patients (20 males and 12 females, mean age 31 ys) with seasonal allergic conjunctivitis to grass pollen, were selected for this study. Nedocromil sodium 2% ophthalmic solution was given at the dosage of 1 drop four times a day for four weeks during the month of June. On a daily diary card each patient had to report the severity of the symptoms: itchy eyes, lacrimation, red eyes and photophobia, following an arbitrary score from 0 to 3 (0 = no symptom, 1 = mild, 2 = medium, 3 = severe). After four weeks of treatment we observed a statistically significant improvement of the symptoms

Effects of Vasocon-A in the allergen challenge model of acute allergic conjunctivitis.

The ophthalmic combination product of 0.05% naphazoline hydrochloride and 0.5% antazoline phosphate (Vasocon-A) was evaluated as an antiallergic agent in 100 subjects with a known allergic history to cat dander, ragweed, or bluegrass pollen. Three independent study sites were used. The allergen challenge model of acute allergic conjunctivitis was selected to assess the agent as it provided a standardized and precise way to measure drug effectiveness for this indication. In a double-masked randomized fashion, the subjects were assigned to one of three groups that received one drop of Vasocon-A

Sodium cromoglycate (intal) in the treatment of vernal keratoconjunctivitis and allergic conjunctivitis.

Intal drops (sodium cromoglycate) relieved symptoms of vernal conjunctivitis in all the 19 patients we studied, reducing the need for steroids although the response varied. Intal was also effective in all 11 patients with acute or subacute seasonal allergic conjunctivitis, but in only 4 of 11 patients with mild chronic conjunctivitis associated with atopy. No side-effects were noted other than mild irritation in some cases.

Preparation and Characterization of Novel Pimecrolimus Nanoparticles for Therapy of Allergic Conjunctivitis.

Pimecrolimus is a novel anti-inflammatory drug for treating allergic conjunctivitis. However, its high hydrophobicity is the bottleneck for clinical application on anti-allergic conjunctivitis. Although ongoing efforts have been made to increase its hydrophilicity through hydration, the results are discouraging. Now, we developed the nanoparticle-encapsule of pimecrolimus in a new material synthesized from polymannuronic acid and oleyl amine. The drug loading and encapsulation efficiency of pimecrolimus nanoparticle were measured by high-performance liquid chromatography, which were 12.38±0.04

Beneficial effect of annexin A1 in a model of experimental allergic conjunctivitis.

Annexin A1 (ANXA1), a 37 kDa glucocorticoid-regulated protein, is a potent anti-inflammatory mediator effective in terminating acute inflammatory response, and its role in allergic settings has been poorly studied. The aim of this investigation was to evaluate the mechanism of action of ANXA1 in intraocular inflammation using a classical model of ovalbumin (OVA)-induced allergic conjunctivitis (AC). OVA-immunised Balb/c mice, wild-type (WT) and ANXA1-deficient (AnxA1(-/-)), were challenged with eye drops containing OVA on days 14-16 with a subset of WT animals pretreated intraperitoneally with

Specific IgE for wheat in tear fluid of patients with allergic conjunctivitis.

CONTEXT: Allergy to hydrolyzed wheat protein in facial soap has become a major social issue in Japan. It has been reported that the most frequent early symptoms of allergy to hydrolyzed wheat protein in soap are allergic conjunctivitis and rhinitis, while wheat-dependent exercise-induced anaphylaxis can be induced by long-term use. OBJECTIVE: We evaluated the relation between tear fluid levels of specific IgE for wheat and the features of allergic conjunctivitis. METHODS: A prospective, non-randomized, cross-sectional study was conducted in 103 patients with moderate to severe allergic conju
