OBJECTIVES: To examine the spectrum of fetal head and neck anomalies that may prompt prenatal referral and to determine the frequency of these consultations.
STUDY DESIGN: Case series with chart review.
METHODS: The billing databases of two urban pediatric otolaryngology practices were queried for ICD-9 codes corresponding to fetal anomalies between January 2010 and December 2012. The pediatric otolaryngology practices in this study evaluate all fetal head and neck anomalies referred to their respective institutions, including craniofacial disorders.

Demoralization, a normal response to adversity, is commonly seen in medical and surgical patients referred for psychiatric consultation. Demoralization should be distinguished from adjustment disorders and other pathological conditions--a process that would be facilitated if demoralization, like grief, were given a V code in DSM. Although the primary responsibility for treating demoralization rests with the patient's physician, the consulting psychiatrist must make an accurate diagnosis and begin the process of supportive psychotherapy.

Emotional problems are not uncommon in hospitalized children. The authors reviewed psychiatric consultations on a pediatric ward in a medical center and compared the findings with a non-pediatric group and the Western reports. Forty consultations were requested in a three-year period which represented 0.35% of all admissions to pediatric ward and 1.0% of all psychiatric consultations in that period.
