Is type 2 diabetes really resolved after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy? Glucose variability studied by continuous glucose monitoring.

The study was carried out on type 2 diabetic obese patients who underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG). Patients underwent regular glycemic controls throughout 3 years and all patients were defined cured from diabetes according to conventional criteria defined as normalization of fasting glucose levels and glycated hemoglobin in absence of antidiabetic therapy. After 3 years of follow-up, Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) was performed in each patient to better clarify the remission of diabetes. In this study, we found that the diabetes resolution after LSG occurred in 40% of patien

Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) in Healthy Japanese Female University Students Showed Early Morning Lower Sensor Glucose Values.

In this study, Continuous Glucose Monitoring, a 24-h continuous sensor measurement of the glucose level, was performed on 35 female university students in their 20s. The results showed that 51.4% of the subjects had at least one episode of low sensor glucose level <54 mg/dL during the entire measurement period. This severe low glucose level condition was defined as lower sensor glucose values and it tended to occur more frequently during the early morning hours, especially from 3:00 am to 7:00 am. There were no significant differences in the BMI, the average number of steps, the total energy i

Glucose Profiles Assessed by Intermittently Scanned Continuous Glucose Monitoring System during the Perioperative Period of Metabolic Surgery.

BACKGROUND: Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) has been widely used in the management of diabetes. However, the usefulness and detailed data during perioperative status were not well studied. In this study, we described the immediate changes of glucose profiles after metabolic surgery using intermittently scanned CGM (isCGM) in individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). METHODS: This was a prospective, single-center, single-arm study including 20 participants with T2DM. The isCGM (FreeStyle Libre CGM) implantation was performed within 2 weeks before surgery. We compared CGM metrics of

Continuous Glucose Monitoring-Purposes, Benefits, and Problems: A Review of the Indian Scenario.

One of the global epicenters of the diabetes mellitus pandemic is India. Over the past 40 years, there has been a sharp rise in the prevalence of diabetes mellitus in India due to rapid socioeconomic development, demographic shifts, and increasing susceptibility in the Indian population. Diabetes affects 74.2 million individuals in India, which places a significant strain on the country's economy and healthcare system. A patient's diet, lifestyle, medication, and glucose monitoring must all be customized for optimal diabetes control. The rates of glucose monitoring in India are abysmal. Most o

Feasibility of continuous glucose monitoring in an acute geriatric unit - the GLYCOGER study.

BACKGROUND: Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) enhances glycemic control and reduces hypoglycemia in patients with diabetes, but its use in geriatric inpatients remains limited. AIM: To assess the feasibility in CGM use among patients hospitalized in an acute geriatric unit. METHODS: We conducted a pilot single-center observational study involving patients aged ≥ 75 years with insulin-treated diabetes who met the French national criteria for CGM reimbursement. The primary endpoint was feasibility of CGM, defined as the acceptability and continuation of CGM during hospitalization with ≥ 70% se

[Continuous glucose monitoring data: how can they be collected and used in practice?].

HOW CAN THEY BE COLLECTED AND USED IN PRACTICE? Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) is becoming an essential part of diabetes management. The AGP report is obtained over a 14-day period, with at least 70% of captured data. The time spent in the 70-180 mg/dl targel range, withe a target of over 70% or 50% in frail patients, is a new parameter that is essential for assessing glycemic control via CGM. Complemented by estimated HBA1c, now called GMI (Glucose Management Indicator), the time spent in hypoglycemia (target inférieur 5% or even inférieur 1% for frail patients) and the coefficient of va

Accuracy of a Factory-Calibrated Continuous Glucose Monitor in Individuals With Diabetes on Hemodialysis.

OBJECTIVE: Continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) improves diabetes management, but its reliability in individuals on hemodialysis is poorly understood and potentially affected by interstitial and intravascular volume variations. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: We assessed the accuracy of a factory-calibrated CGM by using venous blood glucose measurements (vBGM) during hemodialysis sessions and self-monitoring blood glucose (SMBG) at home. RESULTS: Twenty participants completed the protocol. The mean absolute relative difference of the CGM was 13.8% and 14.4%, when calculated on SMBG (n = 684) and

Continuous Glucose Monitoring to Optimize Management of Diabetes in Patients with Advanced CKD.

Treatment of patients with diabetes and CKD includes optimizing glycemic control using lifestyle modifications and drugs that safely control glycemia and improve clinical kidney and cardiovascular disease outcomes. However, patients with advanced CKD, defined as eGFR <30 ml/min per 1.73 m2 or kidney disease treated with dialysis, have limitations to the use of some preferred glucose-lowering medications, are often treated with insulin, and experience high rates of severe hypoglycemia. Moreover, hemoglobin A1c accuracy decreases as GFR deteriorates. Hence, there is a need for better glycemic mo

The role of continuous glucose monitoring for diagnosis of gestational diabetes: exploring the potential.

The diagnosis of gestational diabetes relies upon an oral glucose tolerance test which has established limitations and suboptimal levels of patient adherence. Despite use of different diagnostic criteria globally, rates of GDM are increasing in line with increasing rates of obesity. There is a clinical need to establish an alternative methodology to diagnose GDM. Recent studies have examined the diagnostic role of continuous glucose monitoring with particular emphasis on glucometrics that correlate with adverse pregnancy outcome and may indicate CGM-based diagnostic thresholds for GDM.
