One hundred twenty, 12 weeks old laying Japanese quails (JQ) were equally divided into 4 groups (6 replicates of 5 birds/group). The control group (CON) fed a corn-soybean diet; TML1.4, TML2.8, and TML5.6 groups fed a diet where a Tenebrio molitor larvae meal (TML) was included at 1.4, 2.8, and 5.6%, respectively. The trial lasted 54 days. The villi height (VH) and the crypt depth (CD) linearly decreased from the control to the TML5.6 group (P < 0.01) in the duodenum, while an opposite trend was observed for the Ab+ mucous cells count (P < 0.01). Bacteriol. 92:1141-1149. 1966.-Avian myeloblastosis virus (AMV) induced a spectrum of neoplasms in Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) which was similar to that observed in the chicken, with one exception: the total absence of acute myeloblastic leukemia in quail. Studies in vivo as well as in vitro suggested that the cause for this difference may be ascribed to the heterogeneity of AMV and to the genetic makeup of the quail cell.

Anterior pituitary glands from ovulating Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix) were used to investigate variation in sensitivity to chicken luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (cLHRH I; Gln8-LHRH). Grouping the pituitaries by ovulatory stage provided preliminary evidence of changes in sensitivity to LHRH during the ovulatory cycle. Day-old birds were fed an adequate purified diet containing 35% soy protein to 2 weeks of age.
