Peliosis hepatis (PH) is a condition involving benign tumors pathologically characterized by multiple blood-filled cavities, mostly affecting the liver and spleen. Androgenic-steroids are widely used in patients with bone marrow failure syndromes (e.g.: aplastic anemia) and these patients are at increased risk of developing PH. Although patients with PH are generally asymptomatic, PH can progress to liver failure and even fatal spontaneous intraabdominal hemorrhage. BACKGROUND: Most women who are treated at in vitro fertilization (IVF) clinics have trouble conceiving due to ovarian failure (OF), which seems to be associated to short telomeres and reduced or absent telomerase activity in their granulosa cells. Seven patients suffering from severe endometriosis were treated with danazol 200 mg X 3 daily for 6 months. Clinical symptoms were alleviated and menses disappeared in response to the treatment. After cessation of the treatment the menstrual bleedings returned in 1-3 months. Blood samples for determination of gonadotrophins, prolactin (Prl), oestradiol (E2), progesterone, thyroid hormones and thyrotrophin in radioimmunoassays were taken and a combined TRF and LRF test carried out in the follicular phase before treatment, at the 6th month of treatment and after reappearance of the first menses.

BACKGROUND: Danazol is a synthetic androgen derivative frequently used as prophylaxis in patients with hereditary angioedema (HAE) due to complement-1 esterase inhibitor deficiency. Pelvic pain associated with endometriosis was treated by the long-term administration of a tapering dose of danazol or mid/low doses of oral contraceptives after the end of therapy involving a GnRH agonist (GnRH-a). Results demonstrated that each of these three therapies is a practical and efficient treatment regimen to maintain the relief of pelvic pain achieved by GnRH-a therapy, at least for a period of 12 months.

BACKGROUND: Danazol, a drug extensively used in the management of hereditary angioedema due to C1 inhibitor deficiency (C1-INH-HAE), has various side effects. This study investigated the virilizing actions of this drug in 31 danazol-treated female patients with HAE-C1-INH. We compared our findings with those of healthy controls and with literature data.
