PURPOSE OF REVIEW: To summarize recent updates on the potential role of islatravir for HIV treatment and prevention.
RECENT FINDINGS: Islatravir is an investigational antiretroviral agent with unique pharmacologic properties that facilitate flexible dosing regimens. Islatravir has demonstrated potent antiviral activity and a high barrier to resistance when combined with doravirine and lamivudine. Since 1984 alpha-interferon (alpha IFN) has been the treatment of choice in cases of hairy-cell leukaemia. However, eight years' experience shows that, although a large majority of the patients are improved, they are not cured. Thus, a new type of cytostatic drug, perhaps capable of cure as well, may replace alpha-IFN for the treatment of hairy-cell leukaemia in the future.

Bendamustine (BEN) has structural similarities to an alkylating agent and a nucleoside analog, and effective against tumor cells that are resistant to standard therapy. A procedure is described for the separation and determination of methylthioadenosine in human urine. INTRODUCTION: Hormonal contraceptives are among the most effective forms of reversible contraception, but many other compounds, including some antiretrovirals, have clinically meaningful drug-drug interactions (DDIs) with hormonal contraceptives. Islatravir is a novel human immunodeficiency virus nucleoside reverse transcriptase translocation inhibitor currently in clinical development for treatment and prevention of HIV infection.
