A case of Möbius syndrome is reported with the additional features of dextrocardia and a single ventricle, neither of which have been previously reported in the literature with this syndrome. Correlation of the period in embryogenesis of cardiac partitioning and rotation with the appearance of the cranial nuclei and limb buds would support the proposal that the fourth to the seventh week of gestation is the critical period of embryogenesis, wherein an intrauterine insult could give rise to the Möbius syndrome.

Background: Patients who are diagnosed with dextrocardia, a rare congenital heart condition in which the heart points toward the right side of the chest, need their specific situs classification (eg, solitus, inversus, ambiguus) ascertained to optimize their care and outcomes. In this report, we discuss the perioperative anesthetic management of a patient presenting with dextrocardia. Case Report: A 44-year-old African American female with a history of hypertension, hyperlipidemia, gastroesophageal reflux disease, and diabetes mellitus type 2 was admitted for shortness of breath, dyspnea on ex…

Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA) is described in a patient with dextrocardia. Selective cannulation of the right anterior descending coronary artery (morphologic left anterior descending coronary artery) was achieved with modification of standard guiding catheters "preformed" for the normal, levo-position heart. This report demonstrates the feasibility of PTCA in patients with cardiac malposition who survive into adulthood and develop coronary atherosclerosis.

A patient affected by dextrocardia and WPW syndrome with atrio-ventricular bypass connecting the left sided atrium to the left ventricle (located to the right) is described. Signs of organic heart disease were not present. Electrocardiogram showed, in addition to typical features of ventricular pre-excitation, a QS pattern in leads V4-V6. During exercise testing the pre-excitation disappeared and the electrocardiogram recorded with inverted peripheral cables and right precordial leads, did not show alterations. The analysis of this case and of another previously published suggests that a QS pa…

Dextrocardia occurs in approximately 1 in 10,000 live births and is frequently dismissed as an incidental anatomic variant, particularly when accompanied by situs inversus totalis and a structurally normal heart. Ultimately, dextrocardia reflects a disruption of embryonic left-right axis determination. While situs inversus totalis is often associated with relatively low rates of congenital heart disease, dextrocardia with situs solitus or situs ambiguus is more likely to occur with complex structural abnormalities. Such congenital conditions include single-ventricle physiology, which can requi…

With an estimated incidence of one in 10,000 to one in 50,000 patients, Situs inversus totalis (SIT) is a rare innate anomaly, portraying a mirror image of the normal anatomy, as the cardiac position and abdominal viscera are completely inverted. Despite the fact that physicians and researchers have been dealing with the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic for three years, there is a lack of published data examining the potential effects of anatomic variations on coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infection. This study aimed to contribute to this domain by presenting a rare case of a COVID-19 infection coexi

BACKGROUND: Dextrocardia with atrial fibrillation (AF) complicates radiofrequency ablation treatment.
METHODS: A case of successful AF ablation in dextrocardia, guided by intracardiac echocardiography (ICE) and the Carto 3 high-density mapping system, is reported.
RESULTS: ICE-guided transseptal puncture and three-dimensional mapping facilitated successful pulmonary vein isolation (PVI). The patient had a good recovery with no recurrence.
CONCLUSION: ICE and Carto 3 system's high-density mapping aid in ablation for abnormal cardiac anatomy, reducing surgical complications.
