This study was conducted to identify the Sarcocystis species that infect the opossum Didelphis aurita in order to determine which sporocysts they are excreating in to the environment and help determine the role of D. aurita in the epidemiology of Sarcocystis. Small populations of Virginia opossum (Didelphis virginiana) in western Mexico are endangered by hunting and natural predators as well as by different kinds of diseases. After two serological analyses using Serodia® latex particle agglutination and indirect haemagglutination (IHA) tests, 35 (53.03%) of 66 collected opossums in two small towns in western Mexico were positive for the presence of Trypanosoma cruzi. BACKGROUND: Obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal anomaly syndrome is a Müllerian duct anomaly characterized by uterine didelphys, obstructed hemivagina, and ipsilateral renal anomalies.
CASE: A 12-year-old girl with a history of right renal agenesis presented to the emergency department with abdominal pain, dysuria, and urinary retention. Imaging identified a uterine didelphys with a large obstructed right hemivagina compressing the left ureter, causing hydronephrosis. She underwent vaginal septum resection for curative treatment.

Uterine didelphys with obstructed hemivagina and ipsilateral renal anomalies is a rare congenital malformation of the female urogenital tract. While the urinary anomalies almost always involve renal agenesis, we report a rare case of a 17-year-old girl with the malformation associated with ectopic ureteral insertion into the obstructed hemivagina, which was diagnosed preoperatively by MR imaging. A wide variety of Müllerian anomalies has been described in the literature. Various combinations of anomalies may coexist in a single subject. Precise identification of the various components of the anomaly is paramount in choosing and planning the appropriate conservative and surgical treatment. In this report, we present a rare case of combined vertical fusion and transverse canalization defects in a single subject. A review of the literature along with an overview of the pertinent embryologic processes and management concepts for such cases are presented.
