Viscoelastic properties of human whole blood were measured in 338 subjects: 110 persons (75 F, 35 M) following total thyroidectomy but without substitution therapy over three weeks as well as 228 healthy control subjects (124 F, 104 M) were investigated in this study. Carbon tetrachloride-induced hepatitis in rats is accompanied by blood hyperviscosity syndrome development. A course intragastric administration of thiophane under these conditions prevents the increase in whole blood viscosity by normalizing the microrheological indices (deformability and aggregation of erythrocytes), which is manifested by increasing oxygen availability for tissues.

No satisfactory explanation has been proposed to explain the rewarming deaths common in neonatal cold injury (NCI). Since thrombocytopenia exists in NCI, aggregation studies were performed on human platelets at the relevant temperatures to search for a mechanism that would link thrombocytopenia with this complication. We investigated the hemotoxic effects of three North American pit vipers in healthy human donor blood.
