The clinicopathologic findings of 23 patients with cardiac fibroma are presented. The mean patient age was 13 years, with a range of 1 day to 56 years. The presenting symptoms included heart failure, arrhythmias, sudden death, cyanosis, and chest pain. Some patients had no symptoms, and one patient had Gorlin's syndrome. Echocardiography and magnetic resonance imaging were very sensitive in diagnosis. Nineteen patients underwent tumor resection or biopsy, and four tumors were diagnosed at cardiac transplantation or autopsy on explanted hearts. In five surgical cases, complex operations were ne

A congenital cardiac fibroma presented itself, antenatally by bursts of extrasystoles which were detected by the cardiotocograph during labor. Congenital cardiac tumors are extremely rare. The symptomatology of such tumors consists mainly of hemodynamic disturbances and various arrhythmias. Most of the reported cases were diagnosed in neonates or infants, usually in autopsies, none were diagnosed in utero. It seems logical to assume that some of the arrhythmias may have been present but not diagnosed antepartum. To the best of our knowledge the association of congenital cardiac tumor and fetal

Fetal dilated cardiomyopathy carries a variable but generally poor prognosis, depending largely upon the etiology. Many cases of fetal cardiomyopathy develop during the second or third trimester. Similarly, fetal cardiac tumors typically present during the second or third trimester, but tumors have not previously been found to cause dilated cardiomyopathy during fetal life. We report a case of an infiltrative fetal cardiac fibroma presenting as a form of right ventricular dilated cardiomyopathy during the second trimester. Fetal cardiomyopathy secondary to an infiltrative cardiac tumor should

Cemento-ossifying fibroma (COF) of the jaws is currently classified as a benign mesenchymal odontogenic tumor, and only targeted approaches have been used to assess its genetic alterations. A minimal proportion of COFs harbor CDC73 somatic mutations, and copy number alterations (CNAs) involving chromosomes 7 and 12 have recently been reported in a small proportion of cases. However, the genetic background of COFs remains obscure. We used a combination of whole-exome sequencing and RNA sequencing to assess somatic mutations, fusion transcripts, and CNAs in a cohort of 12 freshly collected COFs.

An ovarian fibroma is a rare entity and a diagnostic dilemma due to its solid nature and ultrasound findings being similar to a uterine fibroid. An ovarian fibroma, being parasitic, is extremely rare. We report the case of a 35-year-old, multiparous woman who presented with a 'wandering' abdominal mass of six months duration. Clinical examination revealed a 16-week size, solid, firm, well-defined mass in the right lumbar and iliac regions, separate from the uterus on bimanual examination, suggestive of a pedunculated subserous fibroid uterus. Ultrasound abdomen with color Doppler evaluation wa

A nuchal-type fibroma is a rare, benign fibrous tumour that typically occurs in the posterior neck along the midline, but can occur in extra-nuchal locations, most commonly in the back, shoulder and face. We present a biopsy-proven case that arose as a result of heavy gym-related activities. In particular, a heavy barbell was rested on his vertebral prominence at the level of C7/T1 during leg squatting. Repetitive trauma as a cause for extra-nuchal-type fibromas has been sparsely reported, but we suggest that sustained high pressure is an additional required feature. Although this lesion was i

BACKGROUND: Several authors have previously reconsidered vulvar fibroma, a rare prepubertal neoplasm, as a physiological labial asymmetry of early puberty, recommending a conservative approach for all cases, although some required further clarification.
CASE: A fibrous mass found in the left labium majus of a 4-year-old girl was surgically removed. Imaging confirmed a relapse after 10 months and a second surgery was performed due to extremely rapid growth. No subsequent relapse occurred after 2 years of follow-up. Diagnosis confirmed prepubertal vulvar fibroma, with positive CD34 and lack of

Peripheral odontogenic fibroma is considered a gingival tumor characterized by a proliferation of relatively cellular fibrous or fibromyxomatous connective tissue which exhibits variable amounts of odontogenic epithelium and sometimes foci of calcification in the form of dentinoid, cementicles, or bone. It is considered the extraosseous counterpart of central odontogenic fibroma. This lesion usually is presented as a focal swelling in the gingiva, occurring in a wide age range, and the anterior region of the gingiva is the most frequent anatomic site. Conservative local excision is the treatme

Sixty-five cases of odontogenic fibroma (OdonF) are herein presented having been segregated into peripheral, extra bony tumors (n = 40) and tumors arising in bone or centrally (n = 25). All cases were characterized microscopically by a fibrous proliferation that varied within and between cases in cellularity and collagen fibril diameter, with intermixed odontogenic epithelial islands and cords. All central lesions presented as well demarcated radiolucencies and resorption of contiguous tooth roots was a common finding. These intraosseous lesions were of the WHO type; the so-called nonWHO type

Surgical removal of left congenital limbo corneal mass by peripheral lamellar keratoplasty (LKP) using preserved remaining corneasclera graft from other recipient was effective for the treatment of limbocorneal fibroma. A case of 17 year old Chinese girl with a corneal mass since her birth on 4:00 'O clock position showed a size of about 2-3 mm. The patient was treated with total resection of the mass with part of Corneascleral Limbus and partial cornea with adjacent tissue and was diagnosed as fibroma after histopathology examination. After follow-up for 6 month, the vision and eye ball movem

INTRODUCTION: Ossifying fibroma mimicking chronic apical periodontitis is extremely rare. This report describes a case of ossifying fibroma located in the periapical region of the mandibular right canine that was misdiagnosed as chronic apical periodontitis.
METHODS: A 40-year-old woman complained of slight pain in the right anterior mandibular region without mucosal abnormalities or swelling. Radiographically, a well-circumscribed, unilocular, radiolucent lesion was observed that was located in the periapical region of the mandibular right canine, which presented an endodontically treated ro

Significant histological overlap exists between fibro-osseous lesions and diagnosis is made on a clinicopathological basis. Ossifying fibroma is a benign fibro-osseous neoplasm of the jaw and craniofacial complex that has generated a degree of controversy regarding diagnosis and classification, especially with respect to the psammomatoid variant. Orbital lesions mainly arise from the paranasal sinuses affecting the medial or inferior orbital wall. Lateral orbital wall ossifying fibroma is, therefore, a rare condition with only a single previous case report. We present a second case of lateral

Gorlin syndrome (GS), also known as nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome (NBCCS), is a rare inherited multisystem disorder. This paper presents a 22-years-old Iranian woman with this syndrome whose past history was multiple keratocysts of maxillary bone. She was referred to gynecology clinic with the chief complaint of irregular menses and vaginal spotting. On examination, frontal bossing and hypertelorism were detected. Physical examination of genitalia disclosed bilateral adnexal masses. Pelvic ultrasound showed two solid, echogenous and calcified masses measuring 100*50*10 & 60*50*45 mm in

INTRODUCTION: The desmoplastic fibroma is a rare bone tumor, characterized by aggressive local infiltration, with frequent recurrence. The most common site is the mandible. Radioclinical signs are not specific and the histological diagnosis may be difficult.
CASE: A 16 year-old male patient consulted for a painless and hard left mandibular swelling, without inferior alveolar nerve disorders. The tumor extended from tooth 31 to tooth 35, the mucosa was healthy. The panoramic view showed a multilocular osteolytic lesion with dental root resorption. CT scan showed expansion of bony cortex with r

Cardiac fibroma is a rare and benign tumor usually seen in infants and children. We report a 3-year-old asymptomatic child who presented with a giant right ventricular (RV) fibroma. He underwent complete surgical resection and is doing well at follow-up. Because of the size of the tumor and the potential need for resection of RV free wall, it is essential to have contingency plans to deal with postoperative RV failure.

We experienced a case of hemorrhagic infarction of the ovarian fibroma and that indicated the characteristic following appearance: exhibiting a high signal intensity area observed at the periphery of mass on T1-weighted MRI (magnetic resonance imaging). It was thought that this appearance developed because hemorrhagic infarction was caused by subacute ovarian torsion. This is a useful finding for suspecting hemorrhagic infarction preoperatively.

Meigs' syndrome includes an ovarian tumor, usually fibroma, associated with hydrothorax and ascites. It is accepted that uterine tumors, like fibromas, can also be associated with ascites and hydrothorax, but this is extremely rare. The mechanism of formation of peritoneal and pleural effusion is not well documented. The most likely pathogenesis ascribes the fluid formation to the filtration of interstitial fluid in the peritoneal through the tumor capsule, and the diffusion to the pleural space through the diaphragm lymphatic vessels at the foramen of Bochdalek. Paraovarian fibromas are also

We describe a unique benign mesenchymal tumor in paraspinal location in a 13-year-old patient with Gardner's syndrome. The Gardner's syndrome in this patient consisted of multiple (more than 100) polyps throughout the entire colon with most in the cecum and rectum, three osteomas in the frontal area of the skull and one in the third right rib, and multiple superficial skin tumors. One of these cutaneous tumors was excised and histologically diagnosed as an epidermal cyst. Both father and uncle of this patient suffered from Gardner's syndrome as well. Microscopically the mesenchymal tumor was h
