Chromium oxide nanoparticles (Cr2O3NPs) are widely used in polymers and paints. In the present study, we aimed to determine the toxicity of Cr2O3NPs in murine fibrosarcoma (L929) cells. The cytotoxicity of Cr2O3NPs was measured by MTT and neutral red uptake assays; Cr2O3NPs had significant cytotoxic effects on L929 cells. Endobronchial metastasis (EBM) is uncommon and frequently is seen in renal, breast, and colorectal carcinomas. Congenital infantile fibrosarcoma (CIF) is a rare soft-tissue tumor in the pediatric age group and seldom involves the gastrointestinal tract. A 2-day-old boy was transferred to our hospital with a pneumpoperitoneum. After emergency operation, we could find a solid mass wrapping around a sigmoid colon and performed a segmental resection of sigmoid colon including a mass. Histopathologic examination showed an infantile fibrosarcoma origining from the muscular layer of colon. The baby was discharged on the 17th hospital day and followed for 1 yr without recurrence.

Primary pulmonary fibrosarcoma is a rare malignant tumor in childhood. In the absence of metastases, complete resection is curative. An 8-year-old boy suffered from unresolving pneumonia due to an obstructing lesion in the left main bronchus. Cytology of the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and histology of bronchial biopsy revealed the diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosarcoma. The tumor did not respond to chemotherapy, and a total lobectomy with sleeve resection was performed with complete removal of the neoplasm. Two years after the operation the child has no evidence of disease.

A tumour line inoculated in mice showed high affinity binding for lipoproteins in vitro. Studies in vivo demonstrated that the assimilation of human low density lipoprotein (LDL) by the tumour was very high. Both receptor and non-receptor mediated catabolism of the lipoprotein by the tumour increased as compared to other tissues known to be sites of lipoprotein catabolism (liver, spleen etc.). These findings suggest that lipoproteins may be useful markers for tumours as well as carriers for cytotoxic drugs to target tissues in vivo.
