Association of Naturalistic Administration of Cannabis Flower and Concentrates With Intoxication and Impairment.

IMPORTANCE: The rapidly growing legal cannabis market includes new and highly potent products, the effects of which, to our knowledge, have not previously been examined in biobehavioral research studies because of federal restrictions on cannabis research. OBJECTIVE: To use federally compatible, observational methods to study high-∆9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) legal market forms of cannabis. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: In this cohort study with a between-groups design that was conducted in a community and university setting, cannabis flower users and concentrate users were randomly as

The Effectiveness of Cannabis Flower for Immediate Relief from Symptoms of Depression.

Objective: Scientific research on how consumption of whole, natural Cannabis flower affects low mood and behavioral motivations more generally is largely nonexistent, and few studies to date have measured how common and commercially available Cannabis flower used in vivo may affect the experience of "depression" in real-time. Methods: We observed 1,819 people who completed 5,876 cannabis self-administration sessions using the ReleafApp™ between 06/07/2016 and 07/08/2019, with the goal of measuring real-time effects of consuming Cannabis flower for treating symptoms of depression. Results: On a

Obdiplostemony: the occurrence of a transitional stage linking robust flower configurations.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Obdiplostemony has long been a controversial condition as it diverges from diplostemony found among most core eudicot orders by the more external insertion of the alternisepalous stamens. In this paper we review the definition and occurrence of obdiplostemony, and analyse how the condition has impacted on floral diversification and species evolution. KEY RESULTS: Obdiplostemony represents an amalgamation of at least five different floral developmental pathways, all of them leading to the external positioning of the alternisepalous stamen whorl within a two-whorled androec

Anti-fertility effect of flower extracts of Tabernaemontana divaricata in rats.

AIM: To evaluate the anti-fertility effect of methanolic (MeTD) and aqueous (AqTD) flower extracts of Tabernaemontana divaricata in rats. METHODS: The anti-fertility activity of the extracts was evaluated using two experimental animal models: 1) Estrogenic activity was carried out in immature female rats using ethinyl estradiol as standard. The evaluation parameters includes changes in uterine weight and histopathology of uterus. 2) Anti-implantation and early abortifacient activity was performed in female Wistar rats. The number of implants and resorbtions were compared to vehicle control.

Induction of flowering by inducers of systemic acquired resistance in the Lemna plant.

In plants, salicylic acid induces both systemic acquired resistance (SAR) and flowering. We found that flower induction in the Lemna species was promoted by reactive oxygen species-generating conditions and SAR inducers. The present paper suggests that SAR in plants and flowering in Lemna share common inducers.

The involvement of cyclic GMP in the photoperiodic flower induction of Pharbitis nil.

The involvement of cGMP in the regulation of the flowering of Pharbitis nil was investigated through exogenous applications of cGMP and chemicals that are able to change the cGMP level and analyses of endogenous cGMP level. Exogenous applications of cGMP and 8-pCPT-cGMP (a cyclic GMP non hydrolyzed analog) to P. nil plants, which were exposed to a 12-h-long subinductive night, significantly increased flowering response. NS-2028 (guanylyl cyclase inhibitor) inhibited flowering when that compound was applied during a 16-h-long inductive night, whereas SNP (guanylyl cyclase activator) increased t

A large outbreak of Legionnaires' disease at a flower show, the Netherlands, 1999.

In 1999, an outbreak of Legionnaires' disease affected many visitors to a flower show in the Netherlands. To identify the source of the outbreak, we performed an environmental investigation, as well as a case-control study among visitors and a serologic cohort study among exhibitors to measure exposure to possible sources. Of 77,061 visitors, 188 became ill (133 confirmed and 55 probable cases), for an attack rate of 0.23% for visitors and 0.61% for exhibitors. Two whirlpool spas in halls 3 and 4 of the exhibition and a sprinkler in hall 8 were culture positive for Legionella pneumophila. One

Blue-light promotion of flowering is absent in hy4 mutants of Arabidopsis.

Loss of a blue-light photoreceptor in the hy4 mutants of Arabidopsis thaliana (L.) Heynh substantially delayed flowering (> 100 d to flower vs. 40-50 d), especially with blue light exposure from lamps lacking much red (R) and/or far-red (FR) light. Red night breaks were promotory but flowering was still later for the hy4-101 mutant. However, with exposure to light from FR-rich lamps, flowering of all mutants was early and no different from the wild type. Thus, flowering of Arabidopsis involves a blue-light photoreceptor and other, often more effective photoreceptors. The latter may involve phy

Deceptive Aristolochia Trap-Flowers Pollinated by Male Phorid Flies Mimic Volatiles Specific to Female Phorids.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Floral mimicry is a form of deceptive pollination in which flowers or inflorescences imitate specific resources relevant to potential flower visitors, such as food, brood sites, or mating partners (sexual mimicry). A plant genus containing many unstudied species with potentially highly diverse deceptive systems is fly-pollinated Aristolochia (Aristolochiaceae), famous for its trap flowers. A few species with strongly male-biased pollinator assemblages have been suggested to mimic the female sex pheromones of flies. However, so far, neither the floral scents nor the female …

Here, we explore the option to directly extract eDNA from individual leaves and flowers omitting a filtration step. We test different isolation protocols and compare the results with a conventional filtration-based protocol. We show that simple precipitation suffices to recover community-level eDNA of arthropods from individual flowers …

Lanthanide Metal-Organic Framework Flowers for Proteome Profiling and Biomarker Identification in Ultratrace Biofluid Samples.

Identifying effective biomarkers has long been a persistent need for early diagnosis and targeted therapy of disease. While mass spectrometry-based label-free proteomics with trace cell has been demonstrated, deep proteomics with ultratrace human biofluid remains challenging due to low protein concentration, extremely limited patient sample volume, and substantial protein contact losses during preprocessing. Herein, we proposed and validated lanthanide metal-organic framework flowers (MOF-flowers), as effective materials, to trap and enrich protein in biofluid jointly through cation-π interact…
