OBJECTIVE: The study was designed to assess the skin and subcutaneous toxicity in patients with advanced colorectal carcinoma treated with four different schedules of FOLFOX.
METHODS: The patients with histologically confirmed advanced colorectal carcinoma (CRC) were included in the study as per specified inclusion criteria. Toxicity was graded according to CTC v2.0. The frequency of grade 3 and 4 adverse effects were comparatively assessed in each treatment arm.
RESULTS: Very severe toxicity was attributed to the FOLFOX7 schedule. The difference between the incidence rate of grade 4 toxicit

Cancer treatment-related skin toxicities are a frequent and distressing side effect of antineoplastic therapies, especially chemotherapy and targeted therapies. Skin toxicities associated with these therapies can include rashes, hand-foot skin reaction, hand-foot syndrome, and hair loss. These symptoms cause not only physical pain and discomfort but also psychological distress, and they can become a stigma of the patient's cancer diagnosis. Skin toxicities can cause treatment delays and even discontinuation, which affects clinical outcome. The prevention of toxicities and effective, early mana

Familial aggregates of incomplete Müllerian fusion have been reported, but the role of genetic factors has not been elucidated. In the last several years, we have fortuitously encountered three families in which several members were affected with Müllerian fusion anomalies. In two families, several members had incomplete Müllerian fusion as traditionally described. In the third family, several members had the hand-foot-genital syndrome, a rare autosomal dominant disorder characterized not only by Müllerian fusion defects but also by skeletal (hand and foot) malformations. The etiologic heterog

Weyers ulnar ray/oligodactyly syndrome is characterized by variable ulnar, radial, or fibular ray limb reductions, single central incisor, and renal, splenic or cardiac anomalies. Split hand/split foot malformation is a central reduction defect of the hands and feet, and may occur either as an isolated malformation or as a part of syndrome. We describe a patient with Weyers-like ulnar ray/oligodactyly reduction limb defects and split hand malformation.

Two patients with triphalangeal thumbs-ectrodactyly syndrome are described. The first case is a 4-year-old female with triphalangeal thumbs, preaxial polydactyly with rudimentary polydactyly of the 3rd finger of the right hand and ectro-syndactyly of feet. Her stillborn sister had triphalangeal thumbs and ectrodactyly of feet. The mother has triphalangeal thumbs, brachy-syndactyly of the left foot and ectro-syndactyly of the right one. The maternal grandmother has syndactyly of 1st, 2nd, 3rd toes and hypoplasia of the 3rd toe on the right foot. The second case is sporadic and shows triphalange

All sensory input underlies modulation by endogenous central nervous system pathways. Dysfunctional endogenous pain modulation has been demonstrated in central sensitization and in several pain syndromes, including Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) Activation of endogenous visceral pain modulation by heterotopic stimulation was compared using different methods. Rectal electrical or distension pain alone or with simultaneous (i.e. heterotopic) noxious hand or foot cold stimulation were investigated in randomized sequence in 14 male and 1 female healthy subjects. BACKGROUND: Polydactyly is one of the most common congenital hand/foot malformations in humans. Mutations in GLI3 have been reported to cause syndromic and non-syndromic forms of preaxial and postaxial polydactylies.
CASE PRESENTATION: The patient was a 2-year-old boy who underwent surgery in our hospital. The right hand and left foot of the patient were labelled as postaxial polydactyly type B, and there was cutaneous webbing between the 3rd and 4th fingers of the left hand. We identified a novel c. 1622C > T variant in GLI3 leading to an isolated postaxial synpolydactyly.
CONCLUSIONS: The

BACKGROUND: Alien limb phenomenon occurs in 50-60% of patients with corticobasal syndrome (CBS) and usually presents with an "alien hand" phenomenon. The "alien foot" presentation is rarer and may be misdiagnosed, as foot involvement can lead to erroneous localization of the clinical problem to the knee, hip, or back. Subsequently misdiagnoses such as myelopathy, radiculopathy, functional disorder, stiff leg syndrome, neuromyotonia, and painful leg moving toes syndrome may occur.
CASE REPORT: We describe two patients with alien foot symptoms that resulted in multiple opinions from different s

We describe a case of VACTERL syndrome associated with type 1 unilateral caudal regression syndrome. The abnormal sonographic findings at 26 weeks included hemivertebrae, scoliosis, hypoplastic and deformed lumbar spine and sacrum, preaxial polydactyly on the left hand, duplicated hallux on the left foot and hemihypoplasia of the left lower limb, bilateral club foot, and single umbilical artery. Postmortem examination confirmed prenatal sonographic findings with additional findings of supernumerary rib at the lumbar level and anal atresia.

Split-hand/foot malformation (SHFM) is a rare limb developmental malformation, characterized by variable degree of median clefts of hands and feet due to the absence of central rays of extremities. To date, six different forms of SHFM have been described. Four of these SHFM1, SHFM3, SHFM4 and SHFM5 show autosomal dominant, SHFM6 autosomal recessive and SHFM2 X-linked pattern of inheritance. In this study a large consanguineous Pakistani family, with autosomal recessive SHFM, appeared in the last two generations, was investigated. In total 15 individuals including 9 males and 6 females were aff

Urogenital birth defects are one of the common phenotypes observed in hereditary human disorders. In particular, limb malformations are often associated with urogenital developmental abnormalities, as the case for Hand-foot-genital syndrome displaying similar hypoplasia/agenesis of limbs and external genitalia. Split-hand/split-foot malformation (SHFM) is a syndromic limb disorder affecting the central rays of the autopod with median clefts of the hands and feet, missing central fingers and often fusion of the remaining ones. SHFM type 1 (SHFM1) is linked to genomic deletions or rearrangements

Polydactyly is the most common congenital limb anomaly occurring both as an isolated defect or as part of a syndrome. However mirror foot is an exceptional abnormality (14 cases reported). The authors describe two sporadic cases of mirror foot. The first case presents a mirror polydactyly of the left foot, an hexadactyly of the right foot and a central polysyndactyly of both hands. The second case presents a mirror polydactyly of both feet. Mirror foot is a very rare defect. Both sporadic and familiar cases have been reported. This malformation can affect one or both feet. Some cases are assoc

We have observed three patients on anticancer therapies presenting with asymmetric acral spared phenomenon and found six identical cases in the literature. All of them had common features, an alteration of the peripheral nerves affecting a limb unilaterally that was spared by a hand-foot syndrome or hand-foot skin reaction. A drug-induced neurotropic effect sounds logical for developing such alterations with specific chemotherapeutic agents (taxanes, cap-ecitabine), while we have not found good explanations concerning the multikinase inhibitor sorafenib nor the topo isomerase inhibitor adriamy

A patient with severe amniotic band syndrome and true proximal syndactyly of the hand and foot is presented. The occurrence of these two seemingly unrelated anomalies may be pathologically linked with amniotic band syndrome in some as yet unexplained way or less likely may occur with amniotic band syndrome coincidentally.

Split hand-foot malformation (SHFM) is a congenital limb malformation affecting primarily the central rays of the hands and/or feet, with variable expressivity, incomplete penetrance and syndromic forms. It is genetically heterogeneous, including point mutations and structural variants in different loci. Five individuals with SHFM were clinically evaluated in a Tertiary Center in Brazil: four of them presented additional, nonskeletal findings, including one individual with split foot, hand syndactyly, and ectodermal findings. Structural variants and point mutations in genes associated with SHF

BACKGROUND: Bullous skin disorders are induced by different pathomechanisms and several are emergent, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis (SJS/TEN). Rapid diagnostic methods for SJS/TEN or cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL)-mediated bullous disorders are crucial for early treatment. Granulysin, primarily expressed by CTLs, is a specific cytotoxic protein responsible for SJS/TEN and similar skin reactions.
OBJECTIVE: To assess granulysin levels in blister fluids to differentiate SJS/TEN and similar CTL-mediated bullous reactions from other autoimmune bullous disorders.

Ectrodactyly, also called split-hand/foot malformation, is a rare congenital limb defect. We report what seems to be the first documented case of ectrodactyly in Ghana. A term female neonate, delivered by elective cesarean section at 38 weeks and 1 day to a 45-year-old multiparous mother with poorly controlled chronic hypertension and well‑controlled gestational diabetes, was found to have bilateral cleft‑type deformities of both hands and feet. Both the index and middle fingers were absent from the right hand, while the middle finger was absent from the left hand. The second and third toes of
