Similar burden of pathogenic coding variants in exceptionally long-lived individuals and individuals without exceptional longevity.

Centenarians (exceptionally long-lived individuals-ELLI) are a unique segment of the population, exhibiting long human lifespan and healthspan, despite generally practicing similar lifestyle habits as their peers. We tested disease-associated mutation burden in ELLI genomes by determining the burden of pathogenic variants reported in the ClinVar and HGMD databases using data from whole exome sequencing (WES) conducted in a cohort of ELLI, their offspring, and control individuals without antecedents of familial longevity (n = 1879), all descendent from the founder population of Ashkenazi Jews.

Spider-fearful individuals hesitantly approach threat, whereas depressed individuals do not persistently approach reward.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Much research documents that anxiety is related to the avoidance of threatening information. Research is also beginning to suggest that depression is related to a lack of approach toward positive information. However, many questions remain regarding the specificity and robustness of these effects. The goal of the present study was to examine specific motivational patterns differentiating between anxiety and depression. METHODS: The current study used the approach-avoidance task (AAT) to further investigate these phenomena. Spider-fearful, depressed, and non-fearful/

Understanding the revolving door: individual and structural-level predictors of recidivism among individuals with HIV leaving jail.

Incarceration, particularly when recurrent, can significantly compromise the health of individuals living with HIV. Despite this, the occurrence of recidivism among individuals with HIV has been little examined, particularly among those leaving jail, who may be at especially high risk for return to the criminal justice system. We evaluated individual- and structural-level predictors of recidivism and time to re-incarceration in a cohort of 798 individuals with HIV leaving jail. Nearly a third of the sample experienced at least one re-incarceration event in the 6 months following jail release.

The relationship between resistance and adherence in drug-naive individuals initiating HAART is specific to individual drug classes.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the relationship between HIV-1 drug resistance and adherence and the accumulation rate of resistance mutations in 1191 HIV-infected, antiretroviral-naive adults initiating highly active antiretroviral therapy in British Columbia, Canada. METHODS: Plasma samples with plasma viral load >1,000 copies per milliliter collected within 30 months of follow-up were genotyped for drug resistance. Adherence was estimated using prescription refills and plasma drug levels. The primary outcome measure was time to detection of drug resistance. Cox proportional hazard regression was

Antibiotic use and gut microbiome composition links from individual-level prescription data of 14,979 individuals.

Disruptions in gut microbiome are implicated in cardiometabolic disorders and other health outcomes. Antibiotics are known gut microbiome disruptors, but their long-term consequences remain underexplored. Here we combined individual-level data from the Swedish Prescribed Drug Register with fecal metagenomes of 14,979 adults to examine the association between oral antibiotic use over 8 years and gut microbiome. In multivariable confounder-adjusted regression models, antibiotic use <1 year before fecal sampling was associated with the greatest reduction in species diversity, but significant asso

Cancer Type-Specific Contributions to the Reduction in Cancer Mortality Gap Between Black Individuals and White Individuals.

IMPORTANCE: Mortality disparity in cancer between Black individuals and White individuals in the US has been declining since its peak in the early 1990s, but a comprehensive analysis of cancer type-specific contributions to this reduction is lacking. OBJECTIVE: To examine cancer type-specific contributions to the reduction in the all-cancer excess mortality rate among Black individuals compared with White individuals between the peak period (1991-1995) and a contemporary period (2019-2023) in the US. DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: A cross-sectional temporal analysis was conducted between

Comparing physical activity practice, pain and psychological characteristics in individuals with fibromyalgia and individuals with low back pain.

BACKGROUND: Chronic primary low back pain (CLBP) and fibromyalgia (FM) have complex etiologies and management approaches. Further research is needed, particularly on subgroups like individuals with CLBP who also report signs and symptoms of FM (CLBP/FM+) to better understand their pain mechanisms and clinical profile. Examining psychological, pain-related characteristics, and physical activity could help identify subgroups of individuals with CLBP/FM+ and guide the development of targeted interventions. This study aimed to compare physical activity practice, pain and psychological characterist

Psychological intervention in individuals with subthreshold depression: individual participant data meta-analysis of treatment effects and moderators.

BACKGROUND: It remains unclear which individuals with subthreshold depression benefit most from psychological intervention, and what long-term effects this has on symptom deterioration, response and remission. AIMS: To synthesise psychological intervention benefits in adults with subthreshold depression up to 2 years, and explore participant-level effect-modifiers. METHOD: Randomised trials comparing psychological intervention with inactive control were identified via systematic search. Authors were contacted to obtain individual participant data (IPD), analysed using Bayesian one-stage meta

Comparing Fathers for Change Individual Therapy for IPV Use to the Duluth Model Intervention in Individual and Group Formats.

Interventions for men who use intimate partner violence (IPV) almost exclusively have been provided and tested in group formats. Development and testing of individual interventions for IPV use has been stymied by the belief that the best approach is a group format with others who also have used IPV behaviors. Yet, few studies have tested this assumption in randomized controlled trials. The current study is a pilot evaluation of an individual intervention for fathers who use IPV, Fathers for Change (F4C), compared to the standard of care for IPV, Duluth Model Batterer Intervention Program deliv

Workflow for Maxilla/Mandible Individual [Mai®] Implant by Integra Implants-How Individual Implants Are Manufactured.

The newest technology allows the medical industry to manufacture innovative products such as milled titanium prosthodontic parts in an implant for a screw-retained suprastructure. In the literature, there are some articles on the clinical usage of subperiosteal implants, but none of these publications, either in PubMed or Google Scholar, thoroughly describe the workflow for the design and manufacture of individual implants for maxillofacial surgery with milled threads for a screw-retained prosthodontic bridge. The aim of the article is to present a step-by-step method of producing personalized

Comparison of gait and sagittal plane arm swing between individuals with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis and healthy individuals.

Arm swing and energy consumption play an important role in the realization of an effective gait. However, research on arm swing and energy consumption during gait in individuals with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) is limited. The aim of this study was to investigate the spatiotemporal characteristics of gait, arm swing angles in the sagittal plane, energy consumption in individuals with AIS, to compare them with their healthy peers in this regard. 26 diagnosed with AIS and 21 healthy were included in this study. Evaluation measures were based on the Cobb angle, axial trunk rotation, tru

Comparison Between Burden of Care Partners of Individuals with Alzheimer's Disease Versus Individuals with Other Chronic Diseases.

BACKGROUND: Caregiving in Alzheimer's disease (AD) is often provided by informal care partners, who spend more hours per week on average than care partners of individuals with conditions other than AD. However, the burden of care in partners of individuals with AD has not been systematically compared to that of other chronic diseases. OBJECTIVE: The current study therefore aims to compare the care partner burden of AD to that of other chronic diseases through a systematic literature review. METHODS: Data was collected from journal articles published in the last 10 years, using two unique sea

Individual Response to Radiation of Individuals with Neurofibromatosis Type I: Role of the ATM Protein and Influence of Statins and Bisphosphonates.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is a disease characterized by high occurrence of benign and malignant brain tumours and caused by mutations of the neurofibromin protein. While there is an increasing evidence that NF1 is associated with radiosensitivity and radiosusceptibility, few studies have dealt with the molecular and cellular radiation response of cells from individuals with NF1. Here, we examined the ATM-dependent signalling and repair pathways of the DNA double-strand breaks (DSB), the key-damage induced by ionizing radiation, in skin fibroblast cell lines from 43 individuals with NF1. Body mass index and risk of dementia: Analysis of individual-level data from 1.3 million individuals.

INTRODUCTION: Higher midlife body mass index (BMI) is suggested to increase the risk of dementia, but weight loss during the preclinical dementia phase may mask such effects. METHODS: We examined this hypothesis in 1,349,857 dementia-free participants from 39 cohort studies. BMI was assessed at baseline. Dementia was ascertained at follow-up using linkage to electronic health records (N = 6894). We assumed BMI is little affected by preclinical dementia when assessed decades before dementia onset and much affected when assessed nearer diagnosis. RESULTS: Hazard ratios per 5-kg/m2 increase in

A psychometrics of individual differences in the truth effect.

The truth effect, the tendency to judge repeated information as more truthful, is a robust cognitive phenomenon. Yet efforts to study individual differences in this effect have returned inconsistent results. We argue that these inconsistencies largely reflect methodological limitations. Specifically, since correlations are attenuated by low reliability, conflicting findings likely stem from inconsistent measurement reliability across studies. In this structured, large-scale analysis of truth-effect datasets, we assess the psychometric properties of truth-effect paradigms. Rather than focusing
