Leishmania tropica is one of the main etiological agents of cutaneous leishmaniasis in Iran. For ultrastructural and isoenzyme study, axenic amastigotes were cultured in a brain-heart infusion medium containing 20 % fetal calf serum, pH 4.5, and incubated at 37 °C in 5 % CO(2). The study was aimed at assessing the total enzyme activity and the profile of breast cancer and dysplasia on the human material. In addition, the validity of data was evaluated from the aspect of improving diagnostics. From the Vero Beach strain of the mosquito Aedes (Stegomyia) aegypti (L.) We examined the influence of five phenothiazine derivatives on the activity and the expression of hepatic cytochrome P450 (CYP) 1A, 2B, 2C6, 2C11, 2E1 and 3A2 in male Sprague-Dawley rats. Twenty mg/kg of phenothiazine, chlorpromazine, and thioridazine, or 1 mg/kg of trifluoperazine and perphenazine was administered intraperitoneally for 4 consecutive days. Nineteen Rhizomucor miehei and Rhizomucor pusillus isolates were assayed for their ability to utilize 87 various substrates as a single carbon source. A new assay method was designed to determine the Regan isoenzyme in sera of patients with ovarian carcinoma. An attempt was made to improve the specificity and sensitivity of the assay. Serum was heated at 65 degrees C for 2 hr to complete the inactivation of intestinal alkaline phosphatase, then incubated with 2'-AMP at 37 degrees C for 20 hr. Adenosine produced was then quantified by anion-exchange column chromatography. Seventy-nine percent of patients with ovarian carcinoma showed elevated activity of the Regan isoenzyme.

We reexamined a previously reported, highly specific increase in the relative proportion of the mitochondrial isoenzyme of aspartate aminotransferase (AST) in the serum of patients with Reye's Syndrome. Using ion exchange chromatography, we measured mitochondrial, cytosolic, and total AST in serum samples from (1) 10 patients early in the course of Reye's Syndrome; (2) nine controls with normal serum AST; and (3) seven controls with other diseases causing an increase in serum AST. Wistar-Furth (WF) strain rats have been shown to have a high incidence of spontaneous colon cancer. We have compared the alkaline phosphatase (AP) isoenzymes in colonic carcinomas of these inbred WF strain rats with the isoenzymes in the non-carcinomatous colon of the same strain and the normal colon of Wistar strain rats, from which the WF strain was derived. LDH isoenzymes of Trichinella larvae isolated from experimentally infected guinea pigs were investigated between days 30 and 400 inclusive after infection. To clarify the value of isoenzymes in the detection of acute myocardial injury (AMI) associated with coronary artery bypass grafting, 350 consecutive patients (804 grafts) were evaluated with serial electrocardiograms (ECG) and serum levels of serum glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase (SGOT), total creatinine phosphokinase (CPK), and lactic dehydrogenase (LDH) on Days 0, 1,2,3,4,5, and 7. Heat and liver lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and isoenzyme distributions were studied in rats with experimental thiamine deficiency. No change in total heart LDH activity was observed on days 24 and 40 of a thiamine deficient diet. The value of the estimation of liver and bone isoenzyme of alkaline phosphatase in a series of 500 admissions to a geriatric unit is described. A raised total alkaline phosphatase was found in 40 patients and this was due to raised levels of the bone isoenzyme in about two-thirds of these. Its value in diagnosis of treatable bone disease is emphasized.
