Hallux valgus and hallux flexus associated with cerebral palsy foot deformity may be due to equinovalgus and/or metatarsus primus adductus or combinations of these. Occasionally the condition occurs in equinovarus feet. Hallux flexus or "dorsal bunion" is usually due to a weak extensor hallucis longus, overpull of the anterior tibial muscle on the first metatarsal and spasticity or contracture of the flexor hallucis longus or brevis. A weak peroneus longus muscle has not caused this deformity. The condition is usually predictable in the growing child if all factors related to gait, collagen st

BACKGROUND: Lateral soft-tissue release can jeopardize the common peroneal nerve (CPN) in total knee arthroplasty for valgus knees. Previous studies reporting safe zones to protect the CPN were based on well-aligned knees. We conducted this study to compare the localization of the CPN in well-aligned knees and in valgus knees.
METHODS: We conducted a consecutive 3-dimensional radiographic study on magnetic resonance images of 58 well-aligned knees and 39 valgus knees. We measured the distance between the CPN and the tibia, as well as the mediolateral, anteroposterior, and angular location of

PURPOSE: To investigate whether 2 months of a postoperative intra-articular corticosteroid injection after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) in rotator cuff tear (RCT) patients with stiffness would improve the functional scores and range of motion of the operated shoulder without capsular release during ARCR.
METHODS: From March 2020 to September 2021, a total of 73 patients who had RCT with stiffness and were scheduled for ARCR were enrolled prospectively and randomly allocated into 2 groups. The patients who underwent ARCR with capsular release were allocated to group 1 (n = 37). The

BACKGROUND: Forearm stiffness can be caused by distal radioulnar joint (DRUJ) capsular contractures, which can occur after trauma such as a distal radius fracture. In this setting, a DRUJ capsular release may help improve forearm rotation, but the long-term functional outcomes remain unknown. The purpose of this case series is to investigate the short-term improvement in total pronosupination arc range of motion and long-term patient-reported outcomes (PROs) after DRUJ capsular release.
METHODS: We performed a retrospective review of consecutive patients who underwent DRUJ capsular release. R

The bone is a large and complex organ (12-15% of body weight) consisting of specialized connective tissues (bone matrix and bone marrow), whereas joints are composed of cartilage, tendons, ligaments, synovial joint capsules and membranes, and a synovial joint cavity filled with synovial fluid. Maintaining healthy bones and joints is a dynamic and complex process, as bone deposition (formation of new bone materials) and resorption (breakdown of the bone matrix to release calcium and phosphorus) are the continuous processes to determine bone balance. Bones are required for locomotion, protection

Five patients with malignant bone tumor were arthroplastied with Dacron fabric-enveloped prosthesis without using cement after resection of tumor. Usually following the wide resection of the primary lesion, the supporting tissues are always lost. Dacron fabric is intended to act as a scaffold upon which connective tissue can proliferate and form new ligament and supporting soft tissues. Dacron fabric is useful for the repair of ligament, muscles, joint capsule, periosteum, and other supporting soft tissues without significant complications. The lengths of the released supporting tissues are ea

Background: In 1927, Cochrane observed persistent elastic resistance to hallux dorsiflexion after cheilectomy for hallux rigidus, attributing it to soft tissue tightness beneath the first metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joint. An innovative surgery was introduced using a plantar approach, dividing the plantar tissues. This procedure achieved complete pain resolution and high satisfaction in 12 patients. Despite addressing the etiology of hallux rigidus, this approach has not been adopted in current surgeries. This report presents a case treated with the arthroscopic Cochrane procedure with a long-te

Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a chronic inflammatory joint disease which develops in patients with psoriasis. It is characteristic that the rheumatoid factor in serum is absent. Etiology of the disease is still unclear but a number of genetic associations have been identified. Inheritance of the disease is multilevel and the role of environmental factors is emphasized. Immunology of PsA is also complex. Inflammation is caused by immunological reactions leading to release of kinins. Destructive changes in bones usually appear after a few months from the onset of clinical symptoms. Typically PsA

A new screwdriver is presented with which small titanium screws can be introduced into a joint under arthroscopic guidance. The screws are centrally cannulated, 2.7 mm thick (thread diameter), and available with and without a washer (5 mm in diameter, serrated and convex, flexible but not removable). The screwdriver has a special screw-holding device which allows the screw to be grasped and released making it possible to remove a screw already implanted in the joint at an earlier time. This arthroscopic screwing system has been used in 81 cases to date. In 59 patients with shoulder instability

BACKGROUND: Hallux valgus (HV) is occasionally associated with chronic dislocation of the lesser metatarsophalangeal (MTP) joints. We have developed a novel surgical procedure to treat dislocation of the lesser MTP joints. This study aimed to describe our procedure and investigate the outcomes of surgical intervention in the treatment of HV with dislocation of the lesser MTP joints.
METHODS: Twenty-three patients (27 feet, average age: 63.6 years, average follow-up: 49.5 months; a minimum follow-up of 24 months) underwent surgical intervention for HV and dislocation of the lesser MTP joints.
