A tumor of the head of pancreas was an incidental finding on US of two patients aged 52 and 61 years presenting with abdominal pain. The tumor was studied by computed tomography, MRI and endoscopic ultrasonography. Surgical biopsy of a liver lesion was performed in one case and partial duodenopancreatectomy was performed in the other case. Histological evaluation, including immunohistochemistry, showed leiomyosarcoma and stromal tumor respectively. Whatever the site of origin, most mesenchymal pancreatic tumors are hypervascular, heterogeneous and have a necrotic center.

Leiomyosarcoma of the scrotum is a rare tumor. Up to 1999, only 29 cases have been reported in the literature worldwide. A 27-year-old man presented with a mass on the left side of the scrotum which had been painless and had gradually enlarged over the previous 10 years. Primary leiomyosarcoma of the fallopian tube is an extremely uncommon neoplasm. We report a 39-year-old premenopausal woman with leiomyosarcoma confined to the right fallopian tube, who is alive without evidence of disease 2 years after surgical resection followed by adjuvant doxorubicin and cisplatin chemotherapy. Two horses affected by chronic, intermittent colic were found, at post-mortem examination, to have localized annular thickening of a segment of the duodenum. Histological examination of the lesion in both cases revealed a tumour composed of bundles of oval or spindle-shaped cells that stained as muscle with van Gieson stain. The histological diagnosis was leiomyosarcoma. The tumour had caused partial bowel obstruction in both horses.

Leiomyosarcomas of the retroperitoneum are rare neoplasms, belonging to the soft-tissue sarcomas, a group that accounts for less than 1% of all malignancies. Signs and symptoms are nonspecific with abdominal pain being the most frequent complaint. Often the tumors reach a large size before being detected. The thirty-second case of leiomyosarcoma of the inferior vena cava and the twelfth resectable patient in the series is presented. A review of the literature demonstrates a marked female preponderance (5 to 1). The most common presenting symptom is right abdominal pain and a palpable mass. The different surgical problems generated by the involved segment of the cava are discussed.
