BACKGROUND: There are several conditions reported to mimic the cutaneous manifestations of dermatomyositis, including lymphoproliferative disorders.
OBJECTIVE: This case report presents an unusual case of peripheral T cell lymphoma mimicking dermatomyositis and discusses the clinical and pathologic features that distinguish it from dermatomyositis.
METHODS AND RESULTS: A 62-year-old woman presented with a two-month history of a progressive painful cutaneous eruption and interstitial infiltrates on chest x-ray. Skin biopsy revealed peripheral T cell lymphoma. The diagnosis was confirmed by lu

Although eosinophilic fasciitis (EF) may precede hematologic malignancy or Hodgkin's disease, association with peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) is extremely rare. Only four cases of EF preceding or concomitant PTCL have been reported in the world literature. We experienced the first Korean case of EF complicated by the later relapse of peripheral T-cell lymphoma. A 63-year-old Korean male has been followed at our outpatient clinic periodically after treatment for stage IV PTCL. He had been in complete remission for seven and a half years when he developed edema of both lower extremities follo

PTCL represents a diverse group of histological entities that defy classification schemes based on normal T cell differentiation, differ in their clinical presentation and behave unpredictably. Genetic analyses of this phenotypically heterogeneous group have clearly shown that histologically defined PTCL may be subdivided on the basis of clonal gene rearrangements. The absence of clonal gene rearrangements in a significant proportion of PTCL cases has increased the complexity of classification. The data presented in this review suggest that a molecular classification would allow true reflectio

Twenty-five patients with peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) were analyzed to assess clinicopathologic features of the disease and were classified according to the newly proposed histologic classification for T-cell lymphomas to study the correlation between histology and survival, if any. Histologic diagnoses were: Lennert's, 1; T-zone, 1; pleomorphic, small, 1; pleomorphic, large, 1; angiocentric, 4; pleomorphic, medium, 5; immunoblastic, 5; angioimmunoblastic, 7. Patients with PTCL were noted to be endowed with clinicopathologic factors known to adversely affect survival, such as advanced st

A case of peripheral T-cell lymphoma presenting with secondary myelofibrosis and meningeal involvement is described. A 65-year-old female was admitted because of remarkable weight loss and pancytopenia. On admission, she was confused and showed tiny cervical lymph nodes but no hepatosplenomegaly. Bone marrow aspiration resulted in dry tap and its biopsy showed remarkable myelofibrosis with marked decrease of hematopoiesis and increase of lymphoid cells. Lymph node biopsy revealed diffuse medium sized cell lymphoma, which was diagnosed as CD3+4+8-peripheral T-cell lymphoma with immunohistochemi

Peripheral T-cell lymphomas constitute a heterogeneous population of postthymic T-cell malignancies. Characteristically, they present a varied phenotypic expression, which can be helpful in establishing the diagnosis. A case of a peripheral T-cell lymphoma in a 76-year-old man is described. The malignant cells in the skin and bone marrow were of the T4 (helper/inducer) phenotype, yet they did not express pan-T-cell antigens, such as T11, or functional E rosettes. In a biopsy specimen from a lymph node, however, the malignant cells had a helper/inducer phenotype and also expressed the pan-T-cel

Eleven patients with mature or peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTL), other than mycosis fungoides, were identified using an extensive battery of T- and B-cell markers. Eight cases had a histologic diagnosis of either diffuse large cell or mixed lymphoma, three of small cell type. All cases had one or more "mature" T-antigens and an absence of B- and immature T-antigens. Assessment of T-antigens included E-rosettes (Er), anti-Leu 1-7 and Tdt. The authors delineated striking heterogeneity of T-antigen expression: 9 different immunotypes in 11 cases. Subset T-antigen assessment indicated T-helper neo

We have studied the clinical and pathologic features of three patients with a distinctive non-Hodgkin's lymphoma of the diffuse mixed cell type. The tumors were characterized by a mixture of lymphoid cells of widely varying size and degree of nuclear transformation. A distinctive feature of the neoplastic cells was the presence of cerebriform nuclear contours identical to those seen in mycosis fungoides. Immunologic studies performed on lymph nodes from two patients revealed that the neoplastic cells were T-cells. Characteristic clinical features of the patients were an advanced stage of disea

To study the distribution profile of CD45RO(+) and CD45RA(+) T cells in the peripheral blood of peripheral T cell lymphoma (PTCL) patients and its clinical significance. 27 patients with PTCL were enrolled in this study, together with 30 healthy individuals as the control group. Flow cytometry analysis was employed to examinate the differences in the distribution of CD45RO(+) and CD45RA(+) T cells in peripheral blood between two groups. In PTCL patient's lymphnode tissues, the T cell population displayed diverse antigenic expression, with CD4(+) T cells as the major subset. No B cell-related a

The coincidence of acute T-lymphoblastic leukemia/lymphoma, NOS (T-ALL/LBL), and peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) is unusual, and there have only been a few cases of their metachronous occurrence. In these cases, PTCLs emerged as recurrence after primary therapy for primary T-ALL, were the rare gamma/delta type, and uncommonly involved skin for T-ALL/LBL. We herein report the first case of de novo T-LBL that coincided with cutaneous gamma/delta PTCL before primary therapy. A 70-year-old man presented with systemic lymphadenopathy. Lymph node biopsy revealed a massive proliferation of lymphobl

BACKGROUND: Peripheral T-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS), is a rare, aggressive subtype of non-Hodgkin lymphoma with no defining immunophenotypic or genetic signature. Extranodal involvement is common, but extensive infiltration without lymphadenopathy is rare.
CASE SUMMARY: A 69-year-old man presented with progressive cardiomyopathy and conduction disease, without systemic symptoms or imaging evidence of malignancy. Workup revealed an atypical T-cell infiltrate on endomyocardial biopsy, but peripheral blood flow cytometry and imaging were unrevealing. Diagnosis remained unc

BACKGROUND: Primary pancreatic lymphoma (PPL) is an exceedingly rare tumor with limited mention in scientific literature. The clinical manifestations of PPL are often nonspecific, making it challenging to distinguish this disease from other pancreatic-related diseases. Chemotherapy remains the primary treatment for these individuals.
CASE SUMMARY: In this case study, we present the clinical details of a 62-year-old woman who initially presented with vomiting, abdominal pain, and dorsal pain. On further evaluation through positron emission tomography-computed tomography, the patient was consid

According to the recently revised WHO classification, peripheral T-cell lymphomas (PTCL) can be classified into up to 30 subtypes. Because the majority of these subtypes were rare cancers, their pathophysiology was not well understood. However, technological advancements including multi-omics approaches such as genomic and gene expression analyses have made significant progress in understanding the pathophysiology of PTCL. Based on the results of these basic studies, the classification of T-cell lymphomas has been changed. Furthermore, new markers discovered through genomic analysis and gene e

Peripheral T cell lymphoma (PTCL) represents a heterogeneous group of rare lymphoproliferative disorders. Historically, there has been a lack of pathobiological understanding of PTCL. With the exception of ALK-positive anaplastic large cell lymphoma, patients with PTCL have less favorable outcomes, with most patients relapsing shortly after conventional anthracycline-containing multi-agent chemotherapy. The standard management approach for PTCL involves induction therapy followed by autologous stem cell transplantation. Patients with relapsed/refractory PTCL have dismal outcomes and limited tr

INTRODUCTION: Peripheral T-cell lymphoma (PTCL) is a relatively rare, heterogeneous group of mature T-cell neoplasms generally associated with poor prognosis, partly because of refractoriness against conventional cytotoxic chemotherapies. To improve the outcome of patients with PTCL, the clinical development of several novel agents is currently under investigation.
AREAS COVERED: Since the first approval of pralatrexate (dihydrofolate reductase inhibitor) by the US Food and Drug Administration, belinostat, romidepsin (histone deacetylase inhibitors), and brentuximab vedotin (anti-CD30 antibod

The follicular variant of peripheral T-cell lymphoma, not otherwise specified, is very rare. Primary epiglottic follicular variant of peripheral T-cell lymphoma is extremely rare in clinical practice. Here, we report the first case of a follicular variant of peripheral T-cell lymphoma not otherwise specified in a 44-year-old Chinese man, who presented with a tumor in the middle of the epiglottis tongue surface. Microscopically, the tumor had a vague nodular growth pattern and the morphology of the nodules was different from each other at low power. Atypical lymphoid cells were medium to large
