BACKGROUND: Switching-on a microwave results in the creation of nano-sized particles, which can spread through the air of a given premise, e.g., room.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study was carried out to determine the number and surface concentrations as well as the mean particles size using a DiscMini measurement device distributed in 6 measuring points to track changes of particle parameters, primarily at the source of particle creation and in the area of local ventilation (fume cupboard), and also in other places, e.g., near the window or in the middle of the room.

The pure rotational spectrum of the PCN radical (X(3)Σ(-)) has been measured for the first time using a combination of millimeter/submillimeter direct absorption and Fourier transform microwave (FTMW) spectroscopy. In this study production of fine particle Fe2O3 via microwave processing of Fe(NO3)3.nH2O followed by low temperature annealing was reported. XRD was used to characterize the structural properties of nanoparticles. Approximate particle sizes were between 3-13 nm according to Scherrer's equation. Microwave digestion of liquid dairy manure was tested for the release of nutrients, such as orthophosphates, ammonia-nitrogen, magnesium, calcium and potassium, both with and without the aid of an oxidizing agent (hydrogen peroxide). A rapid and efficient microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) process for the selective extraction of embelin from Embelia ribes was developed. Solvent selection, microwave energy input and solid loading were optimized. The rate of extraction and purity of embelin depended upon the solvent used and exposure time to microwaves. This paper gives an overview of present scientific knowledge in health research on the effects from radio and microwave frequency radiation, at levels to which the general population is typically exposed. The review is based on human experimental and epidemiological studies investigating the effects of radiation in the frequency range between 100 kHz and 10 GHz. The relevant studies were identified via systematic searches of the databases Medline and ISI Web of Science. Transurethral microwave thermotherapy is a truly office procedure without the need for anesthesia for the treatment of lower urinary tract symptoms caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia. Several devices have been developed. Continuous refinement of the procedure led to higher energy protocols and high-intensity dose protocols applying the heat-shock strategy. We report on the clinical results of these protocols. Symptom scores improve around 60%, whereas maximum urinary flow rate improve from an average 9 to 10 mL/sec at baseline to 14 to 15 mL/sec during follow-up. No significant differences

BACKGROUND: A randomized study evaluated the efficacy of treatment with transrectal microwave hyperthermia (TMH) treatment in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

The use of microwave energy for ablation of the atrioventricular (AV) junction was examined in open-chest dogs. Using a specially designed microwave catheter and a 2450 MHz generator, microwave energy was delivered to the AV junction according to one of two protocols. In protocol 1, increasing amounts of energy were delivered until irreversible AV block occurred. Hundred-micrometer vibratome sections of perfusion-fixed rat brain were incubated briefly in a 5% silver nitrate solution in a conventional microwave oven. Presence of chlorpromazine, a non-active-site inhibitor of Na(+)-K(+)-ATPase catalytic activity, in a reaction system exposed to 9.14 GHz CW radiation, resulted in approximately 23% inhibition.
