Between 1963 and 1972, 986 fungi were isolated from the nails of patients in Western Australia. Three clinical types of infections in both finger and toe nails were studied. PURPOSE: This study aimed to develop a scoring system for evaluating the nail appearance after nail fusion plasty of the duplicated thumb, and to investigate the operation indication of the combination procedure and its effect on the postoperative nail appearance.
METHODS: The nail fusion plasty technique was carried out in 20 patients with congenital thumb duplication. The patients were followed up to observe the appearance of nail, and the results were assessed by our nail appearance evaluation criteria.
RESULTS: Twenty patients were followed up for 18 to 92 months (48 months on average).

Nail-matrix kinetics were studied in 21 patients (19 with onychomycosis, two with tinea corporis) as soon as taking itraconazole (Sporanox) 100 mg daily for up to 7 months. Itraconazole was detected in the distal nail as soon as 1 month after the start of therapy (42 ng/g in fingernails and 16 ng/g in toenails). We report a comparative study between an inflatable expandable nail and a traditional locked intramedullary implant in closed fractures of the femoral shaft. BACKGROUND: Acrylic nails harbor more bacteria than natural nails, and wear is not recommended for health care workers (HCWs). Little is known about the new and popular gel nail products. This study sought to evaluate the bacterial burden of gel nails, standard nail polish, and natural nails on the hands of HCWs.
