Metal-Free Prosthodontic Treatment of Periungual Allergic Contact Dermatitis: A Case Report.

Prosthodontic treatments utilize various procedures and materials such as gold, silver, copper, palladium, cobalt, chromium, and titanium to restore oral function; however, these materials are known to induce allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). We present herein a case in which a patient showed improvement in ACD after undergoing prosthetic treatment using metal-free dental materials. A 53-year-old female patient with periungual inflammation was referred to our department due to instability with her maxillary prosthesis, which was attributed to severe peri-implantitis. Skin tests were conducted

Staged Hard and Soft Tissue Reconstruction Followed by Implant Supported Restoration in the Aesthetic Zone: A Case Report.

Alveolar ridge deficiency is a common clinical consequence following tooth loss due to chronic periodontitis complicating ideal implant placement. Advanced hard and soft tissue augmentation procedures have been developed in the recent past with predictable clinical outcomes. A male patient presented with a Grade III mobile upper right central incisor associated with advanced bone loss and soft tissue deficit. Following extraction of tooth #11, socket augmentation was done using an autogenous cortico-cancellous block graft and subsequent soft tissue augmentation was done with palatal connective

Finishing procedures in orthodontics: dental dimensions and proportions (microesthetics).

OBJECTIVE: The objective of the present article is to describe procedures that can be performed to achieve excellence in orthodontic treatment finishing. The content is limited to microesthetics, which comprises the concept of ideal dental dimensions and proportions (white esthetics) and its correlation with the periodontium (pink esthetics). Standards of normality are described both in their real dimensions (dental height and width), and in those effectively perceived by the observer, the virtual dimensions. METHODS: The best scientific evidence was sought in the literature to support the cl

Tregs and persistent P. gingivalis colonisation: a plausible mechanism for cardiovascular risk in edentulism.

Poor oral health is commonly linked to cardiovascular disease through the established association between periodontitis and systemic inflammation. This relationship is usually explained by bacterial dissemination from periodontal pockets, lipid dysregulation, and oxidative stress, all of which may contribute to endothelial dysfunction and atherothrombotic changes. However, this conventional framework leaves an important question unresolved: if the main infectious and inflammatory niches are removed after complete tooth loss (edentulism), how does edentulism remain associated with increased car

Clinical and Radiographic Outcomes of Sloped-Shoulder Implants in the Posterior Mandible: A Retrospective Study.

Background/Objectives: This retrospective study aimed to evaluate the survival and marginal bone loss (MBL) of sloped-shoulder implants placed in the posterior mandible, and to explore the influence of both patient- and implant-related factors. Materials and Methods: All patients treated with sloped-shoulder-profile implants (Astra Tech Implant System, Dentsply Sirona, Bensheim, Germany) in the posterior mandible between 2012 and 2023 at two private clinics were included. Implant survival was analyzed with Kaplan-Meier estimates. MBL was measured from prosthesis delivery (baseline radiograph)

Conservative management of gingival recession: the gingival veneer.

UNLABELLED: Gingival recession is apical migration of the gingival tissues resulting in exposure of the underlying root surface. This can cause significant esthetic concerns for the patient, especially when it affects the anterior teeth. The gingival veneer is a prosthesis indicated for challenging clinical situations where there are esthetic concerns because of gingival recession, particularly loss of interdental papillae. Replacement crowns, surgery, or extraction of teeth, and provision of a removable partial denture are other treatment options; however, these have a significant biologic an

Gingival recession: Part 1. Aetiology and non-surgical management.

Gingival recession is a common finding in many patients. Some patients will not be concerned whereas others will have aesthetic concerns or complain of sensitivity. This paper highlights the aetiology of gingival recession, the treatment options available to treat any associated sensitivity and the non-surgical treatment options available to restore aesthetics in patients with gingival recession. Subsequent papers in this series discuss the surgical treatment options available to correct localised recession defects.

Three-Dimensional Evaluation of Alveolar Bone Levels Around Dental Implants and Natural Teeth: A Prospective Study.

INTRODUCTION: Dental implants' efficacy is influenced by the quality and quantity of the osseous tissue present at the site designated for dental implants. Therefore, this study was conducted with the primary objective of assessing marginal bone loss around mandibular posterior dental implants at six and 18 months after prosthesis placement, compared with the contralateral natural tooth. The secondary objective was to determine the correlation between various factors such as periodontal status, age, gender, duration between first and second-stage surgery, and marginal bone loss. MATERIALS AND

Retrospective Evaluation of Factors Related to the Outcomes of Regenerative Therapy for Implants Affected by Peri-implantitis.

The aim of this retrospective study was to examine the histories of 100 patients with 170 implants that were consecutively treated and reported in a previous study to identify which patient and implant factors might have affected the outcomes of therapy. Patient factors included history of periodontitis, hypertension, cardiac problems, rheumatoid arthritis, smoking, and penicillin allergy. Implant factors included whether the prosthesis was cemented or screw retained and initial bone loss (≤ 50% or > 50% of implant length). Frequency of maintenance visits (≤ 3 months or > 3 months) were record

Implant-supported prosthesis misalignment related to the dental arch: a 14-year clinical follow-up.

The purpose of this study was to warn the dental community about a possible problem in function with partial implant-supported prostheses used for long periods. The misalignment between natural teeth and the implant-supported prosthesis on teeth 11 and 12, observed in a 14-year clinical follow-up, illustrates the fact. The metal-ceramic crowns were placed in 1995 after a rigorous occlusal adjustment. Evaluations were made at 4, 6, 9, and 14 years, when it was noticed that the restorations were positioned palatally and extruded in comparison with the natural teeth. After 9 years, a greater disc

Relationship between periodontal findings and Behçet's disease: a controlled study.

BACKGROUND: Behçet's disease (BD) is a chronic, relapsing, systemic vasculitis of unknown aetiology. The involvement of oral mucosal surfaces represents the onset feature of the disease in the majority of patients. OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to evaluate the periodontal status of BD patients and then compare with recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) patients and healthy controls. We also determined the relationship between the periodontal condition and the clinical severity of the disease in BD patients. METHODS: Eighty-six patients with BD, 63 patients with RAS and 82 healthy subjec

Cosmetic rehabilitation following successful treatment of aggressive periodontitis.

UNLABELLED: With advances in periodontal therapy, many sufferers from aggressive periodontitis are retaining their teeth after successful treatment. This presents the practitioner with aesthetic and restorative challenges in these relatively young patients. Lifelong motivation is essential to the supportive therapy for these patients, and the maintenance of good aesthetics, combined with biologically acceptable corrective therapy, may help maintain a high level of motivation. Any treatment provided must naturally be conducive to maintaining long-term dental and periodontal health. This paper a

Immediate functional loading of implant-supported mandibular prostheses with customized UCLA'S attachments with distal extension: A case report.

Implant-supported complete dentures are a common procedure for patients with mandibular edentulism problems. This article documents the protocol for immediate functional loading of fixed transient mandibular prostheses with fully moldable attachments and distal extensions to prevent fractures. A 56-year-old female patient was referred to the Oral Rehabilitation and Implantology Service due to periodontal problems, difficulty in chewing capacity and aesthetic compromise. The patient was treated in a single surgical procedure with dental extractions, guided regularization of the alveolar process

Unusual Displacement of a Mobilised Dental Bridge during Orotracheal Intubation.

Dental trauma during tracheal intubation mostly happens in case of poor dentition, restricted mouth opening, and/or difficult laryngoscopy. 57-year-old man undergoing laparoscopic radiofrequency ablation of unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma had his dental work detached at induction of anesthesia. Oropharyngeal direct view, manual inspection, fibreoptic nosendoscopy, tracheobronchoscopy, and fiberoptic inspection of the esophagus and stomach were unsuccessful in locating the dislodged bridge. While other possible exams were considered, such as lateral and AP x-ray of head and neck, further
