Plasma cell leukemia (PCL) is a form of high-risk multiple myeloma comprising 1%-2% of new myeloma diagnoses, and defined by ≥ 5% circulating plasma cells. Classified as primary, de novo or secondary, from relapsed/refractory myeloma, PCL carries worse outcomes than conventional myeloma despite advances. Genomically, PCL demonstrates high-risk abnormalities like del(17p), 1q21 gain/amplification and overrepresentation of t(11;14), marking a distinct biological subgroup. Contemporary management involves quadruplet induction, early autologous stem cell transplantation in eligible patients, and m…

Plasma cell leukaemia is an aggressive plasma cell malignancy characterised by the presence of a high percentage of circulating clonal plasma cells on conventional peripheral blood smear examination. We argue that plasma cell leukaemia must no longer be considered as a separate disease entity but as a type of high-risk multiple myeloma. With the adoption of more strict criteria for defining high-risk multiple myeloma and the relaxation of criteria in defining plasma cell leukaemia, the clinical implications of the terms have converged. Circulating plasma cells-the defining feature of plasma ce…

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is an orthobiologic therapy composed of platelets, leukocytes, red blood cells, and plasma proteins. PRP has been used for 20 years, but progress determining efficacy has been slow. The definitions and classification of PRP are reviewed, and the use of PRP for tendon, ligament, and joint disease is discussed with a focus on findings of basic science and clinical studies, platelet activation, concurrent administration of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, and treatment complications. Finally, the advantages of platelet lysates and freeze-dried platelets are discuss…

Plasma cell leukaemia is a clinical condition in which plasma cells circulating in the peripheral blood constitute >20% of white blood cells (WBC) and there is evidence of plasma cell monoclonality. It is important to be diagnosed early for better treatment outcome. Although it is a rare disease, cases have been reported from Pakistan and other countries (including our neighbouring countries), hence making this case report. After taking history of present and past ailments, physical examination was carried out. Blood and bone marrow sampling were done after taking informed written consent from…

Plasma cell granuloma is a rare reactive lesion composed of polyclonal plasma cells. It manifests primarily in the lungs, but may occur in various other anatomic locations like the oral cavity. Intraoral plasma cell granulomas involving the tongue, lip, oral mucosa and gingiva have been reported in the past. This case presents a 54-year-old female with chronic periodontitis and mandibular anterior gingival overgrowth treated by Phase I therapy (scaling and root planing) and excisional biopsy. Histological examination revealed inflammatory cell infiltrate containing sheets of plasma cells. Immu…
