Sutureless bioprosthetic valves are typically used in patients with a normal-sized aortic root and annulus because of concerns that the stent portion of the valve will not be properly anchored. This report describes an initial case series of sutureless valve implantation in the setting of a diseased aortic root and ascending aortic aneurysm, and it shows that the use of the Perceval valve (LivaNova PLC, London, UK) is feasible in these complex situations.

The patterns of the ribosomal DNA (rDNA) repeat units in seven Drosophila melanogaster inversional mutants have been studied. Among them, only the In(1)sc8 and its deletional derivative Df(1)mal12 female rDNAs exhibited significant reduction in the size of nearly all units, compared to the wild-type females (Canton S, Oregon R). A histological, histochemical and morphometric study was performed on submandibular salivary glands from 13 dogs which had presented with a submandibular mass or swelling that proved to be a portion of non-inflammatory and non-neoplastic submandibular salivary gland. There were no consistent changes in lectin-binding histochemistry or immunohistochemical expression of various cell markers, and, in most cases, there was no measurable difference in acinar size in the affected gland. The possible explanation for the clinical salivary gland enlargement is therefore unclear.

A 38-year-old man presented for evaluation of new-onset left testicular pain with swelling. Testicular ultrasound revealed multiple intraparenchymal hypoechoic areas in the inferior portion of the left testicle. The patient was treated with a radical inguinal orchiectomy. Pathologic evaluation revealed intratesticular vasculitis, with involvement of medium-sized arteries. This appears to be a rare case of isolated testicular vasculitis, in the absence of any systemic symptoms.
