Theobroma speciosum, known as "cacauí" in Brazil, is considered a prominent unconventional food plant. The objective of this work was to evaluate the chemical profiles, antioxidant capacity and minerals of the aqueous extract and fractions from its flowers. The effects of a wide range of mucolytic agents on the viscoelastic nature of a purified mucus glycoprotein gel have been investigated. Eight patients with skin damage due to contact with an amine are described. The material is used in the potash industry under the commercial name of Armine to prevent bosselation. Although it is considered to be a strong base, no deep burns were encountered. The reaction to this material initially resembled a dermatitis; later the wound developed the typical appearance of a burn. To investigate the influence of KOH activation on characteristics and environmental risk of heavy metals in chars, sludge was pyrolyzed with varying amount of KOH. The analyzation of characteristics and potential ecological risk evaluation of heavy metals were conducted by surface area analyzer, FTIR, XRD and BCR sequential extraction.
