The transformation of 2-line ferrihydrite to goethite from supersaturated solutions at alkaline pH ≥ 13.0 was studied using a combination of benchtop and advanced synchrotron techniques such as X-ray diffraction, thermogravimetric analysis, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy. The current work reports the experimental and predicted interfacial behavior of metal ion extraction from aqueous phase-diluent system using a newly synthesized calix-benzo-crown-6 (CBCBGA) ionophore. BACKGROUND: Treatments for thyrotoxicosis and carcinoma thyroid are carried out by oral administration of radioactive iodine ((131)I) in the form of liquid or capsules. The liquid form of (131)I has higher risk factors such as vapourization, spillage and need for management of higher activity wastes. Use of (131)I in capsule form simplify procedures of handling compared to liquid form of (131)I. The guidelines of safe handling and quality assurance aspects for therapeutic use (131)I are well outlined by International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reports.

We studied to assess the validity of the glycophorin A (GPA) mutant assay as a biological marker of the cumulative effects of chronic low doses of ionizing radiation. In 144 nuclear power plants workers and 32 hospital workers, information on confounding factors, such as age and cigarette smoking, was obtained through a self-administered questionnaire. Selenium-79 is a critical radionuclide in the safety assessment of high-level radioactive waste in deep geological repositories in clay-rich formations, due to its long half-life and speciation. It exhibits three relevant oxidation states in anionic forms: selenate(+VI), selenite(+IV), and selenide(-II) whose mobility through clay-rocks needs to be evaluated.
