Radioisotope studies in the diagnosis of acute complications in the post-transplantation stage.

The possibilities of radionuclide investigations with various labelled compounds (125I- and 131I-hippuran, 99mTc-albumin, 99mTc-DTPA, 99mTc-citrate, 99mTc-calcium gluconate) in the diagnosis of acute complications of the post-transplantation period are discussed on the basis of observations in 105 recipients in whom acute complications arising in different stages of the post-transplantation period required diagnostic differentiation between various syndromes, i.e. renal arterial or venous thrombosis, ureteral occlusion, failure of ureterocystoanastomosis, acute renal failure, infarct, carbuncl

The particular usefulness of radioisotope methods in some benign bone diseases.

The authors have performed radioisotope examinations in 271 patients with various non-neoplastic bone diseases. According to their opinion, early diagnosis and follow-up of therapeutic results are the main characteristics which allow radioisotopes to play an important and irreplaceable role. They particularly emphasize the usefulness of radioisotope methods in femoral aseptic necrosis and Paget's disease.

Preoperative diagnosis of rectal bleeding in an adult using a radioisotope scan.

A 22-year-old man with burning pain in the lower abdomen and rectal bleeding had a sodium pertechnetate Tc 99m scan. The scan showed an area of uptake in the right lower quadrant which at operation was found to be a Meckel's diverticulum. The ability of ectopic gastric mucosa within a Meckel's diverticulum to concentrate sodium pertechnetate Tc 99 m allows for this noninvasive diagnosis of some types of rectal bleeding, especially when the cause has escaped detection by conventional endoscopic and barium contrast examinations.

[When is a radioisotope diagnosis indicated in thyroid diseases and when is it superfluous?].

In response to the question when radioactive isotopes (radionuclides) are necessary or superfluous in the diagnostic workup of thyroid disease, the following observations can be made: 1. Radionuclides are almost ubiquitously used for the specific and relevant in-vitro tests for measuring the circulating thyroid hormones (T4 und T3, etc.) and necessitate a very small quantity of serum. They lead in approximately 90% of cases of the correct diagnosis, especially when supported by careful clinical workup. 2. The use of radionuclides is of unquestionable value for scanning the thyroid gland and th

RNA Nanoparticles Harboring Radioisotopes or Other Imaging Molecules for Spontaneous Tumor Targeting for Early Cancer Diagnosis.

Cancer patients benefit from significantly higher survival rates if tumors are detected at early stages and prior to metastasis. Positron em … ue technology to specifically label three-way junction (3WJ) RNA nanoparticles is reported to carry radioisotopes or other imaging markers for cancer imaging. Two RNA nanoparticles were constructed to target prostate specific membrane antigen (PSMA) via a PSMA RNA aptamer or conjugated tert-Butyl-DCL (DCL). The spontaneous cancer homing of the RNA complex resul …

New Bifunctional Chelators Incorporating Dibromomaleimide Groups for Radiolabeling of Antibodies with Positron Emission Tomography Imaging Radioisotopes.

Positron Emission Tomography (PET) imaging with antibody-based contrast agents frequently uses the radioisotopes [64Cu]Cu2+ and [89Zr]Zr4+. The macrobicyclic chelator commonly known as sarcophagine (sar) is ideal for labeling receptor-targeted biomolecules with [64Cu]Cu2+. The siderophore chelator, desferrioxamine-B (dfo), has been widely used to incorporate [89Zr]Zr4+ into antibodies. Here, we describe new bifunctional chelators of sar and dfo: these chelators have been functionalized with dibromomaleimides (dbm), that enable site-specific and highly stable attachment of molecular cargoes to …

Immobilization of the Gas Signaling Molecule H2 S by Radioisotopes: Detection, Quantification, and In Vivo Imaging.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2 S) has multifunctional roles as a gas signaling molecule in living systems. However, the efficient detection and imaging of H2 S in live animals is very challenging. Herein, we report the first radioisotope-based immobilization technique for the detection, quantification, and in vivo imaging of endogenous H2 S. Macrocyclic (64) Cu complexes that instantly reacted with gaseous H2 S to form insoluble (64) CuS in a highly sensitive and selective manner were prepared. The H2 S concentration in biological samples was measured by a thin-layer radiochromatography method. When (64

[Ectopic or migrating spleen and supernumerary spleens: detection and identification with 99mTc, 51Cr and 113In radioisotopes].

Congenital malformations of the spleen are rare. We report a patient with an ectopic spleen located in the left iliac fossa, which was excised in order to prevent severe complications such as torsion of the pedicle, rupture or infection. A second patient with idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura presented with an accessory spleen located retroperitoneally. Removal of this spleen following removal of the normotopic one resulted in cure of purpura. The clinical, radiological and radioisotopic studies used to locate and identify these malformations are described.
