Cardiac Rehabilitation: A Bibliometric Review From 2001 to 2020.

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a serious threat to global public health due to its high prevalence and disability rate. Meanwhile, cardiac rehabilitation (CR) has attracted increasing attention for its positive effects on the cardiovascular system. There is overwhelming evidence that CR for patients with CVD is effective in reducing cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. To learn more about the development of CR, 5,567 papers about CR and related research were retrieved in the Web of Science Core Collection from 2001 to 2020. Then, these publications were scientometrically analyzed based on

Anxiety sensitivity correlates with two indices of right anterior insula structure in specific animal phobia.

BACKGROUND: Anxiety sensitivity (AS) is a dispositional trait involving fear of anxiety-related symptoms. Functional imaging research suggests that the activity of the anterior insular cortex, particularly the right insula, may both mediate AS and play a role in the pathophysiology of phobias. However, no imaging studies have examined whether AS relates to insula morphology. We examined whether AS was significantly correlated with right anterior insula volume and thickness among adults with specific animal phobia (SAP) and healthy comparison (HC) subjects. METHODS: Nineteen adults with SAP an

No Increased Risk of Taking Additional Intestinal Mucosal Research Biopsies From the Duodenum During Pediatric Endoscopy.

Studies involving human intestinal tissue are essential for advancing the field of celiac disease (CeD), as diagnosis requires duodenal biopsies. Performing studies in children helps to better understand CeD in this important subpopulation. This study aims to determine the risk in obtaining duodenal research biopsies during pediatric endoscopy. In this retrospective chart review from 2016 to 2022 of 1180 research subjects and controls, there were 18 procedure-related adverse events within 48 hours. Most adverse events were for symptoms of pain and fever. There was no increased risk of adverse

Managing chemobrain: Translational insights and evidence-based psychological interventions.

With the improving survival rates of malignant tumors, the focus of attention in cancer research is shifting toward a better understanding of long-term treatment-related adverse effects that impact quality of life, with particular focus on cancer-related cognitive impairment. This phenomenon, commonly referred to as "chemobrain" in the literature, manifests as deficits in attention, memory, processing speed, and executive functions. Although the frequency of objectively measured cognitive deficits detected through neuropsychological assessments are moderate, subjective complaints often result

Visual consciousness in health and disease.

Conscious experience is an essential part of normal human life and interaction with the environment. Yet the nature of consciousness and conscious perception remains a mystery. Because of its subjective nature, consciousness has been difficult to investigate scientifically, but clues have been gained through studies involving patients with cortical lesions. During the past decade, the development of event-related fMRI has provided insights into aspects of conscious perception in control subjects and patients with cortical lesions by correlating awareness and performance with neural activity du

Revisiting deficits in threat and safety appraisal in obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Current behavioural treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is informed by fear conditioning and involves iteratively re-evaluating previously threatening stimuli as safe. However, there is limited research investigating the neurobiological response to conditioning and reversal of threatening stimuli in individuals with OCD. A clinical sample of individuals with OCD (N = 45) and matched healthy controls (N = 45) underwent functional magnetic resonance imaging. While in the scanner, participants completed a well-validated fear reversal task and a resting-state scan. We found no evidenc

CO2 challenge-evoked hormonal changes predicting TSST changes in cortisol and subjective distress.

The importance of stressor response in relation to the development of psychopathology has been recognized for decades, yet the relationship is not fully understood. The Trier Social Stress Test (TSST) is an established conditioned stressor and frequently used to assess cortisol response to acute stress in different psychopathologies. The 35 % CO2 Challenge is a biological stressor and has mostly been utilized to assess subjective responses in anxiety related disorders. In the current study (N=189), we assessed the hormonal effects (cortisol, testosterone) and subjective distress (stress, anxie

Psychophysical and pupillometric study of spatial channels of visual processing in blindsight.

To date no systematic method has been used for characterising the residual capacity of blindsight subjects that would allow comparison and generalisation across all subjects. The detection of isoluminant gratings of varying spatial and temporal frequencies commends itself for detailed between-subject comparison, and for mapping results onto physiological properties in relation to neuronal circuitry. We report the ability of a blindsight subject (CS) to detect suprathreshold sine-wave gratings over a range of spatial and temporal frequencies using psychophysical techniques. A band-pass spatial

Better Objective Sleep Quality in Older Adults with High Subjective Memory Decline.

BACKGROUND: Sleep disturbance is implicated in memory function across normal aging and neurodegenerative disease. Furthermore, there is mounting evidence to suggest that high levels of subjective memory decline (SMD) may signal very early neurodegenerative changes associated with Alzheimer's disease (AD). This view prompts research examining the relationship between SMD and other risk factors for cognitive decline, including sleep disturbance. OBJECTIVE: To determine whether objective and subjective indices of sleep predict SMD in older adults. METHODS: 181 community-based older adults were
