The effects of different coculture patterns with salt-tolerant yeast strains on the microbial community and metabolites of soy sauce moromi.

In this study, the contributions of three strains and different coculture patterns to microbial community diversity and metabolites in the high-salt liquid-state fermentation (HLF) soy sauce moromi were investigated. A comparison of two strains of Zygosaccharomyces rouxii showed that strain QH-25 had a stronger ability to contribute metabolites, including both nonvolatile and volatile types, to the moromi than strain QH-1, except for volatile acids and ketones. Of the various fortification patterns tested, the content of metabolites was significantly increased by inoculating Z. rouxii QH-25 pr

Multi-omics and functional validation profiling reveals the regulatory mechanism of biofilm-forming Tetragenococcus halophilus JY1 in response to salt tolerance.

Biofilms are crucial for enhancing microbial productivity in industrial applications, yet the mechanisms underlying their stress resistance and formation in functional microorganisms remain inadequately explored. Tetragenococcus halophilus, a halophilic lactic acid bacterium, is widely utilized in traditional fermentation industries; however, research has focused on its planktonic state. To address this gap, this study investigated the molecular mechanisms of biofilm formation in T. halophilus JY1 under low-salt (0.2 M, LS) and high-salt (3 M, HS) stress conditions. Physiological analyses reve

Maize Aldehyde Decarbonylase 1 Gene (ZmCER1) Positively Regulates Salt and Drought Tolerance by Improving Wax Synthesis and Reactive Oxygen Species Detoxification.

Maize (Zea mays L.) is a vital global crop whose productivity is severely threatened by abiotic stresses. Epicuticular waxes provide a hydrophobic barrier that protects land plants from environmental stresses. However, the role of key wax biosynthetic enzymes, such as aldehyde decarbonylase CER1, in maize stress adaptation remains unclear. In this study, we performed a functional characterization of ZmCER1 in maize. Our results show that the overexpression of ZmCER1 in both Arabidopsis and maize substantially improved tolerance to these abiotic stresses. Under stress conditions, the transgenic

ABA-mediated salt tolerance in Astragalus cicer: From physiological-biochemical responses to key regulatory networks identified by transcriptome profiling and WGCNA.

Soil salinization severely constrains the productivity of leguminous forages, but the regulatory mechanisms of salt acclimation in Astragalus cicer remain unclear. Here, we investigated the ABA-dependent salt tolerance network in this species through integrated physiological, biochemical, and transcriptomic analyses under controlled stress conditions, including salt treatment, exogenous ABA supplementation, and chemical inhibition of endogenous ABA synthesis. Our results show that exogenous ABA effectively mitigates salt-induced growth inhibition, enhances antioxidant capacity, preserves photo…

Overexpression of TaNHX3, a vacuolar Na⁺/H⁺ antiporter gene in wheat, enhances salt stress tolerance in tobacco by improving related physiological processes.

Salt stress is one of the major abiotic stresses affecting plant growth, development, and productivity. In this study, we functionally characterized a wheat vacuolar Na(+)/H(+) antiporter gene (TaNHX3). TaNHX3 is 78.9% identical with TaNHX2 in nucleic acid level, encoding a polypeptide of 522 amino acids (aa). TaNHX3 is targeted onto tonoplast after ER sorting and can complement the growth under salt stress in a yeast mutant with a defective vacuolar Na(+)/H(+) antiporter exchange. TaNHX3 transcripts were induced by applying salt stress in wheat cultivars. More TaNHX3 were detected in the salt

Rhizobium tropici genes involved in free-living salt tolerance are required for the establishment of efficient nitrogen-fixing symbiosis with Phaseolus vulgaris.

Characterization of nine transposon-induced mutants of Rhizobium tropici with decreased salt tolerance (DST) allowed the identification of eight gene loci required for adaptation to high external NaCl. Most of the genes also were involved in adaptation to hyperosmotic media and were required to overcome the toxicity of LiCl. According to their possible functions, genes identified could be classified into three groups. The first group included two genes involved in regulation of gene expression, such as ntrY, the sensor element of the bacterial ntrY/ntrX two-component regulatory system involved…

Salt/alkali‑tolerant Streptomyces luteus TRM 45540 improves pepper growth and soil quality in acidic and alkaline soils.

This study evaluated the potential of the salt-alkali-tolerant actinobacterium Streptomyces luteus TRM 45540, isolated from Lop Nur saline-alkali soil in Xinjiang, to alleviate pH-related iron deficiency and promote pepper growth. We hypothesized that this strain could mobilize and compete for soil iron via siderophore production, thereby benefiting plants under variable-pH conditions. To test this hypothesis, we compared its effects with conventional iron fertilizers (EDDHA-Fe₆, ferrous sulfate) and compound microbial fertilizer on pepper growth, soil physicochemical properties, and rhizosphe

[Effects of Salt-tolerant Rice Cultivation on Organic Carbon Pool and Carbon Conversion Enzyme Activities in Coastal Saline Soil].

Cultivating salt-tolerant rice (STR) is an effective approach to ameliorating coastal saline soils (CSL). In this study, the CSL without STR cultivation served as the control (CK), while soils with different rice cultivation years (1-5 years) were the research objects. The one-way analysis of variance, redundancy analysis, Monte Carlo permutation test, Mantel test, and structural equation modeling were applied to investigate the changes and internal connections of soil organic carbon components, carbon pool quality, and carbon-converting enzyme activity under STR cultivation in CSL. The result
