Treatment of a case of primary alveolar soft part sarcoma of the lung: Case report and literature review.

Alveolar soft part sarcoma (ASPS) is an extremely rare type of soft tissue sarcoma. The primary sites of ASPS are mostly located in the extremities and trunk. Primary pulmonary ASPS is extremely rare. A search of the PubMed® database identified only five cases of primary pulmonary ASPS. This current case report describes the sixth case of ASPS in a 15-year-old male that presented with recurrent headaches. Head computed tomography showed space-occupying lesions in the left parietal lobe. Positron emission tomography-computed tomography confirmed the space-occupying lesions in the left parietal

Microwave tomography for functional imaging of extremity soft tissues: feasibility assessment.

It is important to assess the viability of extremity soft tissues, as this component is often the determinant of the final outcome of fracture treatment. Microwave tomography (MWT) and sensing might be able to provide a fast and mobile assessment of such properties. MWT imaging of extremities possesses a complicated, nonlinear, high dielectric contrast inverse problem of diffraction tomography. There is a high dielectric contrast between bone and soft tissue in the extremities. A contrast between soft tissue abnormalities is less pronounced when compared with the high bone-soft tissue contrast

Robust disturbance-aware actor-critic reinforcement learning for multi-DOF robotic manipulators.

Building on recent insights that augmenting reinforcement-learning policies with disturbance estimates improves robustness and sim-to-real transfer, this paper proposes a disturbance-aware actor-critic RL framework for high-precision robotic manipulators. We derive the dynamics of manipulators ranging from two to six degrees of freedom and design a nonlinear disturbance observer that provides real-time estimates of lumped uncertainties. Unlike conventional feedforward-only designs, the proposed DACRL framework deeply integrates DOB information into the actor-critic's learning state, cost funct

Safe Optimal Control Framework for Cooperative Manipulation of Objects in Human-Robot Teams.

This article introduces a distributed deep neural network (NN)-based adaptive control framework for cooperative object manipulation in human-robot teams with unknown agent dynamics by using three distinct multilayer NN observers (MNNOs). The first observer, termed the reference point estimator, enables each robotic agent to estimate the object's reference center using consensus-based learning, even without direct access to global reference trajectories. The second observer, referred to as the human force-to-trajectory estimator, uses human-applied forces to infer the intended position, velocit

Autonomous Learning With High-Dimensional Computing Architecture Similar to Von Neumann's.

We model human and animal learning by computing with high-dimensional vectors (e.g., D = 10,000). The architecture resembles traditional (von Neumann) computing with numbers, but the instructions refer to vectors and operate on them in superposition. The architecture includes a high-capacity memory for vectors, counterpart of the random-access memory (RAM) for numbers. The model's ability to learn from data reminds us of deep learning, but with an architecture closer to biology. The architecture agrees with an idea from psychology that human memory and learning involve a short-term working mem

Computational methods for alternative proteins.

The growing demand for sustainable food systems has accelerated research into alternative proteins derived from plant sources, microorganisms, insects, and cultured animal cells. These protein systems offer promising solutions to environmental, ethical, and nutritional challenges associated with conventional livestock production. However, designing and optimizing alternative proteins requires deep understanding of molecular structures, biochemical properties, and production processes. Computational biology has emerged as a powerful approach to address these challenges by enabling predictive mo

Neural network modelling of soft tissue deformation for surgical simulation.

This paper presents a new neural network methodology for modelling of soft tissue deformation for surgical simulation. The proposed methodology formulates soft tissue deformation and its dynamics as the neural propagation and dynamics of cellular neural networks for real-time, realistic, and stable simulation of soft tissue deformation. It develops two cellular neural network models; based on the bioelectric propagation of biological tissues and principles of continuum mechanics, one cellular neural network model is developed for propagation and distribution of mechanical load in soft tissues;

Why family medicine requires a paradigm shift from linear guidelines to complexity science.

We propose that family medicine must integrate soft computing methodologies-such as fuzzy logic, fractal analysis and causal inference-not as technological novelties but as the theoretical necessity required to map the non-linear topology of human health. This perspective reframes family medicine not as an exc …

Antiferromagnetic skyrmion-based energy-efficient leaky integrate and fire neuron device.

The development of energy-efficient neuromorphic hardware using spintronic devices based on antiferromagnetic (AFM) skyrmion motion on nanotracks has gained considerable interest. Owing to their properties such as robustness against external magnetic fields, negligible stray fields, and zero net topological charge, AFM skyrmions follow straight trajectories that prevent their annihilation at nanoscale racetrack edges. This makes the AFM skyrmions a more favorable candidate than the ferromagnetic (FM) skyrmions for future spintronic applications. This work proposes an AFM skyrmion-based neuron

Comparison of the soft tissue thickness of the midface in craniosynostosis.

Craniosynostosis is classified according to the included sutures as either symmetric, such as scaphocephaly and brachycephaly, or asymmetric, such as plagiocephaly. Asymmetric craniosynostosis has been known to exert asymmetric effects not only on the cranium but also on the facial skeleton. Nonetheless, the presence of asymmetry in soft tissues is only speculative and is based on the experience of plastic surgeons. In our study, after measuring the surface coordinates of soft and bone tissues from numerous positions on three-dimensional computed tomography (CT), the distance between the coord

Multi-rate sampled-data control for T-S fuzzy systems with mismatched fuzzy basis functions.

This paper investigates a multi-rate sampled-data (MRSD) stabilization criterion for T-S fuzzy systems with the consideration of mismatched fuzzy basis functions (FBFs). To fully exploit the system information under a MRSD mechanism, we incorporate an improved looped-functional and a discontinuous function into the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional (LKF). This construction explicitly leverages the most recent measurements and the sampling-induced delay associated with each system state. Furthermore, to address a set of conditions expressed as parameterized linear matrix inequalities (PLMIs), this

A predictive ant colony optimization routing protocol for correlated link stability in wireless body area networks.

BACKGROUND: Wireless Body Area Networks (WBANs) are essential for continuous health monitoring but face critical challenges due to dynamic link instability caused by body movements and strict bio-safety requirements. The fluctuating wireless channel leads to high packet loss, while radio frequency (RF) energy absorption, measured as Specific Absorption Rate (SAR), must remain below 1.6 W/kg to prevent tissue damage. Existing routing protocols often react to failures rather than predict them and rarely co-optimize reliability with thermal safety. METHODS: This paper proposes PACO-CLS (Predicti

Deoxyribonucleic Acid Brick Crystal-Based Textile Memristor with a Set Voltage of 0.06 V and a High Switching Ratio as an Artificial Synapse for Neuromorphic Computing.

Memristor synapses based on biomaterials provide the possibility of creating high-performance organic memory devices, which play an important role in next-generation eco-friendly neuromorphic computing. Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) has unique electrical conductivity, as well as physical and chemical stability, which is extensively distributed in nature, and it has been used in the resistive switching (RS) layer to prepare memristors. However, the reported DNA-based memristors also require further optimization to improve the performance in terms of set voltage, switching ratio, and energy consum

A novel soft tissue-integrated kinematic solver for skeletal motion: Validation and applications.

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Kinematic solvers for human motion analysis, relying on oversimplified joint definitions, face inherent limitations in capturing the true spectrum of skeletal motion. Recent advancements incorporated soft tissue constraints to derive more realistic joint kinematics. However, these methods require marker data input and are computationally expensive, limiting their application to specific joints. This paper proposes a novel kinematic solver that addresses this gap by explicitly accounting for soft tissues, while allowing for accurate and computational efficient modeling

Organic Electrochemical Transistors for Neuromorphic Bioelectronics: Materials and Manufacturing Technologies.

Neuromorphic bioelectronics operate in soft, hydrated environments where ionic flux, electronic transport, and molecular reconfiguration jointly encode history-dependent computation. Organic mixed ionic-electronic conductors provide a materials platform that supports concurrent ionic and electronic transport within the same bulk medium, enabling conductance to evolve continuously under electrochemical stimuli. This review examines organic electrochemical transistors as a unifying device architecture in which electrochemical gating induces volumetric (de)doping, coupling channel geometry and el

Artificial Synapse Based on Black Phosphorus/SnS2 Heterostructure Transistor for Neuromorphic Computing with High Accuracy.

Artificial synaptic devices have garnered significant attention for overcoming the limitations of conventional von Neumann architecture in neuromorphic computing. However, the reported nonlinear weight update of artificial synapses prevents a hardware neural network from achieving the same high training and learning accuracy levels as those attained by a soft neural work. Despite the large-area fabrication constraints, two-dimensional (2D) materials that have tunable electronic band alignment and optoelectronic properties have emerged as promising candidates for artificial synapses. Here, we d
