BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Dithiocarbazates (DTCs) and their metal complexes have been studied regarding their property as anticancer activities. In this work, using S-benzyl-5-hydroxy-3-methyl-5-phenyl-4,5-dihydro-1H-pirazol-1-carbodithionate (H2bdtc), we prepared [ReO(bdtc)(Hbdtc)] and [[99mTc]TcO(bdtc)(Hbdtc)] complexes for tumor uptake and animal biodistribution studies.

Vascularized lymph node transplant (VLNT) is one of the treatment options for chronic lymphedema following both breast cancer-related lymphoedema and lower extremity lymphoedema. Cardiac amyloidosis is an under-appreciated cause of heart failure. Establishing a diagnosis is important because traditional heart failure treatment regimens can worsen left ventricular failure in this disease. BACKGROUND: Treatment with antithyroid drugs is effective in conditions of increased thyroid hormone production (mostly Graves' Disease; GD), but not in subacute thyroiditis (SAT) or autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT). Positive thyroid stimulating immunoglobulins (TSI) make GD likely. However, not all children with GD have increased TSI. Uptake studies with (123)I or (99)Tc ((99m)Tc) provide accurate and rapid diagnosis but are expensive and involve radiation exposure. Our objective was to compare TSI with (99m)Tc uptake for diagnosis of pediatric hyperthyroidism.

HYPOTHESIS: High-resolution ultrasound and technetium Tc 99m sestamibi scanning can be used for preoperative localization of abnormal parathyroid glands in patients with hyperparathyroidism.
DESIGN: Ultrasound and sestamibi scanning were performed in patients undergoing neck exploration for hyperparathyroidism. If the 2 scans agreed in identifying a single adenoma, and surgery confirmed the location of a single adenoma and an ipsilateral normal gland, a unilateral exploration was performed.

A prospective study was initiated to assess the side-effects of postoperative adjuvant radiotherapy in patients with left-sided early breast cancer. We report a case of rapid 99mTc-methoxyisobutylisonitrile (MIBI) clearance from a parathyroid adenoma. A double-phase 99mTc-MIBI parathyroid scintigraphy was performed on a 62-yr-old female evaluated for primary hyperparathyroidism. Rats with one kidney clamped (2K1C), both kidneys clamped (2K2C), unilaterally nephrectomized with remaining kidney clamped (1K1C), and normals, were studied using 99mTc mercaptoacetyltriglycine ([ 99mTc]MAG-3) and 131I orthoiodohippurate ([131I]OIH). Double-tracer scanning (Tc-99m as pertechnetate and Tl-201 as chloride) with an Anger camera and computerized image subtraction was performed in 61 patients whose clinical and biochemical findings had suggested primary hyperparathyroidism. Sixty patients were evaluated for acute abdominal pain using technetium-99m PIPIDA hepatobiliary imaging. The sensitivity of the test was 90.6 percent in all patients and the accuracy was 93.3 percent. In the evaluation of acutely ill patients with right upper quadrant pain, fever, nausea and vomiting, hepatobiliary imaging with PIPIDA is the preferred test for diagnosing acute cholecystitis. If the test is positive, disease of the gallbladder and probably acute cholecystitis are present. Early operation can proceed if desirable. Metastatic pulmonary calcification, a well-known complication in patients with chronic disease, has been demonstrated postmortem in patients with a negative chest X-ray.
