BACKGROUND: Periodontal plastic surgery aims to restore recessions and dehiscence around teeth and implants. Several techniques, such as subepithelial connective tissue graft (CTG), were proposed with the main outcome of improving volume and root coverage. Nevertheless, this surgery might not improve the keratinized tissue width. Thus, the primary aim of this case report was to describe the possible increase in keratinized tissue after a subepithelial CTG and simultaneously use the previously harvested graft as a source for covering an adjacent tooth.

The reaction of subcutaneous soft tissue on xenogenic grafts was studied by means of morphometric and histological methods. Xenogenic grafts of human dura and bovine vessels were prepared with fibrin tissue adhesives and with a Lys-Pro-derivative which is an angiogenic factor in other animal models. The best results could be demonstrated in the animal group in which the Lys-Pro-derivative was used, 7, 28, and 87 d after operation.

Recently microsurgical tissue transfer--especially to the distal lower leg--for coverage of big soft tissue defects has been found to yield better results than conservative methods. However, there is still a problem providing coverage for multiple defects with only one tissue transfer. One solution is to employ multiple transplants with only one nourishing pedicle. Six patients have been treated successfully with such transplants. The operative procedure and the postoperative results are presented with a case report.

Ten allogeneic bone marrow transplant (BMT) recipients with hepatic venoocclusive disease (VOD) were treated with recombinant human tissue plasminogen activator (rt-PA).
