Association of crown discoloration and pulp status in traumatized primary teeth.

The aim of the present study was to determine the association of tooth discoloration in traumatized primary teeth with clinical and radiographic signs of pulp necrosis, and pulp status at the time of endodontic access. Clinical and radiographic data from dental reports of the 47 patient charts of the Trauma Patient Care Program were used totaling 55 teeth that underwent endodontic treatment following the protocol of the Federal University of Santa Catarina (Brazil). The following data were collected: gender, age of child at time of trauma; crown discoloration; abscess and/or fistula; periapica

Crown lengthening revisited.

Over the last 37 years, crown-lengthening procedures have been used predictably to restore teeth broken down from caries, trauma, and extensive wear. With crown lengthening, the dentogingival junction is "re-created" at a more apical level on the root to accommodate the junctional epithelium and the connective tissue attachment. Forced eruption can be used in addition, or as an alternative, to tooth lengthening. The authors discuss the indications for tooth lengthening, forced eruption, and orthodontic extrusion, as well as the treatment planning for these procedures.

Mucogingival considerations in orthodontic treatment.

Alterations in the mucogingival complex will occur during orthodontic tooth movement, but these are independent of the apico-coronal width (height) of the gingiva. The integrity of the periodontium can be maintained during orthodontic therapy also in areas that have only a minimal zone of gingiva. In terms of changes in the position of the soft tissue margin and in gingival dimensions, the important factors to consider are the direction of the tooth movement and the bucco-lingual thickness of the gingiva. Lingual tooth movement will result in an increased bucco-lingual thickness of the tissue

Combined treatment of surgical extrusion and crown lengthening procedure for severe crown-root fracture of a growing patient: a case report.

BACKGROUND: Preservation of a healthy periodontium is critical for the long-term success of restored teeth. In cases of extensive caries, tooth fracture, inadequate crown length, and increased esthetic demands, the restorative margins need to be placed apical to the gingival margin. Violation of the biological width due to dental trauma frequently appears in clinical practice. There are three treatment options for preserving biological width and the ferrule effect: crown lengthening, orthodontic extrusion, and surgical extrusion. This case report describes the surgical intervention and fixed p

Prevalence and technical standard of endodontic treatment in a Swedish population. A longitudinal study.

The aims of this thesis were to study longitudinally the tooth mortality, prevalence and technical standard of endodontic treatment as well as the endodontic treatment need in a Swedish population. Furthermore, the prevalences of teeth with crowns and posts were studied as well as the prevalence of apical periodontitis in such teeth, to see if these treatments affected the apical status. Finally, the reasons for and incidence of tooth mortality were investigated to see if the reasons for extractions were correlated to endodontic status, crown or post therapy, respectively. The interobserver va

Management of Concomitant Intrusion and Complicated Crown-Root Fracture Injury of Maxillary Central Incisors in a Child.

Dental intrusions are a severe type of injury because they impact the neurovascular supply of the tooth as well as the supporting tissues which predispose the tooth to necrosis and root resorption. Management of these injuries requires repositioning of the teeth under close monitoring to avoid complications. The management becomes more comprehensive when an intrusion is combined with other injuries, such as a crown-root fracture. This case report represents a 4-year follow-up of a child who suffered from a concomitant injury of intrusion and complicated crown-root fracture to the maxillary imm

Vital Pulp Preservation and Restorative Treatment for Young Permanent Incisors with Complicated Crown-Root Fractures: A Case Report.

This study reports a case of complicated crown-root fractures of the maxillary central incisors (teeth 8 and 9) in a 10-year-old boy. Vital pulpotomy and iRoot BP Plus capping were performed to protect the pulp. The fractured crown fragments were used to restore the tooth morphology, and the esthetics and function of both central incisors were restored. The roots of the affected teeth continued to develop normally. Twenty-five months after the initial treatment, the patient suffered another trauma, resulting in a second dislodgement of the fractured crown of the left maxillary central incisor.

Management of complicated crown-root fractures using intentional replantation: two case reports.

The management of complicated crown-root fractures is a challenge. Intentional replantation with 180° rotation may be a useful procedure to overcome this problem. In Case 1, a 23-year-old woman with complicated crown-root fractured teeth #11, #21, and #22 was referred for treatment. All fractured teeth were extracted, rotated 180°, and replanted in a slightly extruded position. After 3 months, root canal treatment was completed and the final restorations fabricated. At the 18-month follow up, the patient was asymptomatic, the tooth was functional, and no root resorption was observed radiograph

Technical note: Estimating original crown height in worn mandibular canines using aspects of dentin morphology.

We present a novel method to estimate original crown height (OCH) for worn human mandibular canines using a cubic regression equation based on ratios of worn crown height and exposed dentin. This method may help alleviate issues frequently presented by worn teeth in dental analyses, including those in bioarchaeology. Mandibular canines (n = 28) from modern day New Zealand and English populations were selected. Crown height and dentin thickness were measured on dental thin sections (n = 19) and the resulting (log10) ratios were fitted to a cubic regression curve allowing OCH in worn crowns to b

Investigation of stress distribution within an endodontically treated tooth restored with different restorations.

BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Recently, metal-free restoration has become the standard in prosthetic treatment. However, it is still unclear which combination is most effective in preventing root fracture and secondary caries. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of different post systems, crown materials, crown thickness and luting agents on the stress distribution around the crown margins, cervical dentin and the tip of the post. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ninety-six mandibular first premolar models were developed and analyzed using finite element analysis (FEA). Two designs of crowns,
