In this innovative study, the ferrule design for endocrowns was compared with a new preparation design with tetra-corner retention grooves at each corner of the access cavity, and the 3D finite element method was used for analysis. Resin nanoceramic (RNC), lithium disilicate glass-ceramic (LDS), polyetheretherketone (PEEK), and polymer-infiltrated ceramic network (PICN) materials were investigated. The new design significantly reduced the stress for LDS and PICN in axial and oblique loadings. On remaining tooth tissues, the tetra-corner retention groove design increased the stress peak for RNC

A common complication of tooth replantation after traumatic avulsion is tooth ankylosis causing dental malpositioning, partial loss of function, tipping of adjacent teeth and worsening of aesthetics. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effects of a repositioning procedure of such ankylosed permanent front teeth by a distraction osteogenesis procedure. Five patients (mean age 13.4 years), with an ankylosed permanent front tooth in the anterior area, were enrolled in the present study. After the pre-operatory orthodontic preparation, each selected site was treated with single-tooth dento-al

The minimal-preparation, resin-retained adhesive bridge may be considered to be an ideal choice of fixed prosthesis to replace a single missing tooth, especially in the anterior maxillary region. The technique is well documented, enjoys a high success rate, and with suitable case selection generally employs a conservative preparation. Other advantages include reduced cost compared with conventional bridges and simplified laboratory and clinical procedures. Its limitations are principally due to occlusal factors, or the presence of unsuitable abutment teeth--for example, those that are extensiv

BACKGROUND: Dental caries is one of the most prevalent chronic oral diseases worldwide. In the management of deep carious lesions, complete removal of decayed tissue disregards the biological heterogeneity of dentine and may increase the risk of iatrogenic pulp exposure, thereby predisposing teeth to pulpal inflammation and related complications. With the advancement of minimally invasive dentistry, selective caries removal (SCR) has emerged as a biology-guided treatment strategy and has gained increasing attention in clinical practice.
OBJECTIVE: SCR aims to precisely eliminate infected dent

BACKGROUND: Smart burs and chemo-mechanical caries removal (CMCR) systems are considered viable alternatives to traditional cavity preparation techniques. Numerous clinical studies have been conducted to assess and compare the impact of these two techniques; nevertheless, these studies have demonstrated considerable variability in their findings. The objectives of the present systematic review and meta-analysis were to compare the efficacy, efficiency, and patient comfort of CMCR systems and smart burs in primary molars.
METHODOLOGY: The review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Syste

The congenital teeth are not only classified by Massler et al. as a natal tooth that has erupted at birth and a neonatal tooth that erupts at neonatal period, but also divided into a normal deciduous tooth and a supernumerary tooth. The congenital teeth are mostly found in the mandibular anterior region, but extremely rare in other regions. The authors met a rare case, that had a so-called congenital tooth in the maxillary anterior region, which was a supernumerary and fused tooth. The case was a boy patient, 4 months of age, who visited the pedodontic clinic, of Ohu University Dental Hospital

BACKGROUND: Impacted maxillary canines are likely to be extracted in adult patients once orthodontic treatment is ruled out. The missing teeth are generally replaced with dental implants.
CASE DESCRIPTION: The authors report the clinical case of a 45-year-old man who was missing the maxillary left canine for 30 years. Radiographic examination revealed that the maxillary permanent left canine was palatally impacted. The tooth was transplanted into the prepared socket on the missing tooth site and secured in the desired position with a flexible wire splint. During the 7-year follow-up, the toot

Tooth autotransplantation is a biologically favorable option for the replacement of missing teeth and has demonstrated predictable outcomes with both immature and mature donor teeth. In challenging anterior maxillary defects, digitally assisted variations of the technique may expand treatment possibilities and offer an alternative to conventional bone augmentation in selected cases. This article presents a digital and clinical workflow for dentoalveolar complex (DAC) autotransplantation in anterior maxillary reconstruction. The reported case involves transplantation of a donor tooth together w

White spot lesions are considered to be a major concern in esthetic dentistry. These lesions can be treated with noninvasive to less invasive procedures, which remain a challenge for many clinicians. The treatment of choice should be as minimally invasive as possible and should aim to minimize the color difference between the white spots and the healthy tooth enamel. Tooth whitening can be used initially to minimize this difference by rendering the extent of the white spot defects less visible, which permits a bevel effect. In addition, the microinvasive treatment option of resin infiltration,

The buccal bone wall is the part of the socket of an anterior tooth that is most susceptible to resorption. Immediate implants offer advantages in terms of time, comfort, and esthetics, especially regarding the maintenance of the papillae architecture. However, the loss of the buccal bone wall is often a limitation for such a therapy. This case report describes a clinical procedure designed to reconstruct the buccal bone wall to restore an anterior tooth where this wall was absent. The approach involved a flapless immediate implant based on the principles of guided bone regeneration (GBR), and

Inflammatory external root resorption (IERR) after orthodontic treatments is an unusual complication. This case report describes a non-vital maxillary premolar with symptomatic extensive IERR (with a crown/root ratio of 1:1) after receiving orthodontic treatment. The first appointment included drainage, chemo-mechanical preparation of the canal and intra-canal medication with calcium hydroxide (CH) along with prescription of analgesic/antibiotic. The subsequent one-week follow-up revealed the persistence of symptoms and formation of a sinus tract. Finally, extraoral endodontic treatment was pl

Actinomycosis is caused by gram-positive, branching, filamentous, anaerobic bacteria of the genus Actinomyces. This case report describes treatment of a 35-year-old woman who had a progressive apical lesion after nonsurgical endodontic retreatment of her maxillary left lateral incisor. The area had localized soft tissue swelling, and the tooth was sensitive to percussion. Radiographic evaluation showed a large apical lesion with a clear margin. After treatment options, including extraction, were discussed, the patient chose to preserve the tooth through endodontic surgery. Root-end resection,

This study compared the accuracy of Root ZX mini apex locator in presence of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) in primary molars with and without apical resorption. Sixty-four extracted primary lower molar teeth with 32 root resorption and 32 without resorption were selected. To determine the actual working length (AWL), a K-file was inserted into the root canal until the tip of the file was visible at the major foramen or the resolution level. It was then withdrawn 1 mm. This value was recorded as AWL. The teeth were then divided subgroups (with/without NaOCl). To determine the electronic working l

UNLABELLED: This case report describes the treatment of a patient with Sjogren's syndrome who was missing all of the posterior teeth in the maxillary left arch. Implants were contraindicated for this patient because of a chronic sinus infection. Various removable prosthodontic options were considered, and the patient was ultimately treated very conservatively with a rotational path removable partial denture (RPD). This approach required no tooth preparation other than bonding a resin composite cingulum rest on the maxillary left canine. The use of the rotational path RPD eliminated any unsight…

Continuous chelation involves the simultaneous use of sodium hypochlorite and a chelating agent. Given the combination of a proteolytic agent and a demineralising chelator, this study aimed to investigate whether mixtures containing the weak chelators etidronate or clodronate and sodium hypochlorite could adversely affect the mechanical strength of teeth compared to the sequence sodium hypochlorite/EDTA/sodium hypochlorite. Matching pairs of bovine teeth were tested on a universal testing machine, and the compressive load at fracture was recorded. One root from each pair was prepared with the

OBJECTIVE: Investigation of the mechanical properties of occlusal veneers made from zirconia with varying translucency, bonded to different tooth substrates.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Sixty-four extracted molars were divided into two groups: preparation within enamel (E) or extending into dentin (D). Veneers were milled from four zirconia ceramics (n = 8): 5Y-TZP (HT), a multilayer of 5 and 3Y-TZP (GT), 3Y-TZP (LT), and 4Y-TZP (MT). After bonding, specimens underwent thermocycling (7500 cycles; 5°C-55°C) and chewing simulation (1,200,000 cycles; 10 kg), followed by investigation of the wear beha

Mandibular first molars, also called six-year molars as they appear at around six years of age, are the first permanent teeth to erupt in the oral cavity. They are the teeth most commonly affected by dental caries. Anatomically, the tooth presents with two roots and three canals. In very rare cases, presence of an extra root or a supernumerary root has been associated with the tooth. When this root is present lingual to the distal root, it is called radix entomolaris whereas when it is present buccal to the mesial root, it is called radix paramolaris. The presence of veiled canals is possible
