PURPOSE: To evaluate the effect of sodium hyaluronate on the early complications of trabeculectomy.
METHODS: In this prospective study, trabeculectomy was performed in 51 eyes of 51 patients with different types of glaucoma. Patients were divided into two groups randomly. In 24 eyes (study group) sodium hyaluronate was injected into the anterior chamber after suturing the scleral flap. In the remaining 27 eyes (control group) only balanced salt solution was injected. PURPOSE: To compare the effectiveness of limbus- and fornix-based conjunctival flaps in patients undergoing trabeculectomy with mitomycin-C augmentation.
METHODS: A retrospective review of the records of 71 consecutive eyes of 59 patients who underwent trabeculectomy with mitomycin C. All the patients had at least 6 months of follow-up. This study reviewed the trabeculectomies (TEs) carried out in University Malaya Medical Center between 1994 to 1998. One hundred and nine of 132 eyes operated were in the primary glaucoma group of which 63 (47.7%) were of the open angle type and 46 (34.8%) were of the angle closure type. The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence and risk factors of hypotony and the effectiveness of medical and surgical treatment. A total 117 eyes of 103 patients that underwent trabeculectomy with mitimycin C (MMC) between 1993 and 2000 were reviewed. AIM: To investigate the effect of trabeculectomy with and without mitomycin C in post-keratoplasty glaucoma.
METHODS: A retrospective study was performed on patients who underwent trabeculectomy for glaucoma after penetrating keratoplasty. 34 eyes of 32 patients were included in this study. 26 eyes received trabeculectomy with mitomycin C and eight eyes without mitomycin C. A case is reported of a 67-year-old female patient, in whom a fungal endophthalmitis occurred 6 years after trabeculectomy. Pseudallescheria Boydii was isolated. This organism is a rare cause of infection. In the literature only 14 cases of keratitis and 8 cases of endophthalmitis have been reported. Miconazole is the therapy of choice. However in 55% of the published cases, (as in the one reported here), an exenteration or enucleation of the affected bulbus was necessary.
