BACKGROUND: Thoracolumbar fascia (TLF) is crucial for stabilization and load distribution. Individuals with non-specific low back pain (NSLBP) and hyperlordosis present with trigger points (TrPs) and tight TLF. Instrument-assisted percussion therapy (IAPT) is a form of vibration therapy used for the release of fascia. However, the effect of IAPT has not been well understood on TrPs in TLF and its effect on posture.
PRIMARY STUDY OBJECTIVE: To determine the effect of IAPT on hyperlordotic posture, pelvic inclination, TrPs, and disability in NSLBP. Another aim was to evaluate the tangible effec

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the efficacy of botulinum toxin A (BT-A) as a prophylactic treatment for chronic tension-type headache (CTTH) with myofascial trigger points (MTPs) producing referred head pain.
BACKGROUND: Although BT-A has received mixed support for the treatment of TTH, deliberate injection directly into the cervical MTPs very often found in this population has not been formally evaluated.
METHODS: Patients with CTTH and specific MTPs producing referred head pain were assigned randomly to receive intramuscular injections of BT-A or isotonic saline (placebo) in a double-blind design.

Claims have been made that local heat is particularly useful in treating osteoarthritis pain. This randomised trial evaluates the short term efficacy of local heat, on the pain caused by cervical osteoarthrosis. Two treatment groups were compared, one receiving mock TNS and the other heat from an infra-red gun (the IRS Medtec 100). Both the placebo and treatment groups received treatment on local tender trigger points. Each patient received four treatments. Pain was assessed before entry into the trial and after the completion of treatment; the parameters used for assessing pain were, analgesi

Myofascial trigger points (MTrPs) and body postural misalignment, including the position of the scapula, can contribute to the onset and persistence of musculoskeletal pain. However, the relationship in asymptomatic cases remains unclear. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the relationship between the asymmetry of the resting scapular position and latent MTrPs in the upper trapezius muscle (UTM) in asymptomatic adults. A total of 32 asymptomatic adult men (mean age, 26.28 ± 1.1 years) were included in this study. Full-body photographs were taken from the posterior view, with the partic

A typical vasovagal response is characterized by bradycardia and paradoxical vasodilation. It is oftentimes self-limited and spontaneously reversible; however, severe cases can result in significant complications. This report describes a case of profound vasovagal syncope with subsequent cardiac arrest in the setting of receiving a trigger point injection. This patient presented to an outpatient clinic for ultrasound-guided left trapezius, levator scapulae, and rhomboid trigger point injections for relief of myofascial pain. One milliliter of 1% lidocaine was injected into the first trigger po

The nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) pathway is constitutively activated in chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) patients, and hence plays a major role in disease development and evolution. In contrast to many other mature B-cell lymphomas, only a few recurrently mutated genes involved in canonical or non-canonical NF-κB activation have been identified in CLL (i.e. BIRC3, MYD88 and NFKBIE mutations) and often at a low frequency. On the other hand, CLL B cells seem 'addicted' to the tumor microenvironment for their survival and proliferation, which is primarily mediated by interaction through a number o
