[The impact of vibratory stimulation therapy on voice quality in hyperfunctional occupational dysphonia].

UNLABELLED: Hyperfunctional dysphonia is the most frequent type of occupational functional dysphonia. Pharmacotherapy, physiotherapy and psychotherapy are used in the treatment of occupational dysphonia. Vibratory massages of the regions of the larynx relax the external muscles of neck, which have an indirect impact on the tension of the vocal folds. PURPOSE: The aim of the study is to assess the impact of vibratory stimulation therapy on voice quality in patients with hyperfunctional occupational dysphonia treated pharmacologically. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Forty patients with hyperfunctional …

Validation of an instrument to measure voice-related quality of life (V-RQOL).

When a patient presents for care of a voice disorder, the clinician attempts to diagnose the problem, quantify the degree of dysphonia, and prescribe appropriate treatment. Quantification of the degree of dysphonia is often difficult, as no universal index of vocal function exists. Decisions about the nature and intensity of treatment are often based on the magnitude of the voice-related problems experienced by the patient and the importance that the patient places on those problems, that is, the impact that the voice disorder is having on the patient's voice-related quality of life (V-RQOL).

Is children's listening effort in background noise influenced by the speaker's voice quality?

The present study aims at exploring the influence of voice quality on listening effort in children performing a language comprehension test with sentences of increasing difficulty. Listening effort is explored in relation to gender ( = cisgender). The study has a between-groups design. Ninety-three mainstreamed children aged 8;2 to 9;3 with typical language development participated. The children were randomly assigned to two groups (n = 46/47) with equal allocation of boys and girls and for the analysis to four groups depending of gender and voice condition. Working memory capacity and executi…

Parent and Child Responses to the Pediatric Voice-Related Quality-of-Life Questionnaire.

OBJECTIVES: When assessing pediatric dysphonia, there are different approaches that can be taken in gathering a subjective view of the impact voice difficulties have on a child. Most valid questionnaires require parent-proxy reporting, although it has become increasingly important to gather the views of children themselves. This study reports a pilot study of an adaptation to the Pediatric Voice-Related Quality-of-Life Questionnaire (PVRQoL). METHODS: A total of 24 parent and child dyads were recruited from a tertiary pediatric voice clinic. Children were aged between 3 years and 8 months and

Meta-Analysis of Validated Quality of Life Outcomes Following Voice Feminization in Transwomen.

OBJECTIVES: For transwomen undergoing voice feminization interventions, fundamental frequency (F 0 ; vocal pitch) is a commonly reported functional outcome measure in the literature. However, F 0 may not correlate well with improvement in quality of life (QoL). Several validated voice-related QoL instruments have been used to assess QoL improvement in these patients, yet there is no consensus on the most appropriate instrument. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the relationship between change in F 0 and QoL improvement following voice feminization, and to compare validat
