Phlebotomus perniciosus response to volatile organic compounds of dogs and humans.

The olfactory response of insect vectors such as phlebotomine sand flies is a key facet for investigating their interactions with vertebrate hosts and associated vector-borne pathogens. Such studies are mainly performed by assessing the electrophysiological response and the olfactory behaviour of these arthropods towards volatile organic compounds (VOCs) produced by hosts. Nonetheless, few studies are available for species of the subgenera Lutzomyia and Nyssomyia in South America, leaving a void for Old World sand fly species of the genus Phlebotomus. In this study, we evaluated the olfactory

Deciphering the binding mechanism of inhibitors of the SARS-CoV-2 main protease through multiple replica accelerated molecular dynamics simulations and free energy landscapes.

The pneumonia outbreak caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus poses a serious threat to human health and the world economy. The development of safe and highly effective antiviral drugs is of great significance for the treatment of COVID-19. The main protease (Mpro) of SARS-CoV-2 is a key enzyme for viral replication and transcription and has no homolog in humans. Therefore, the Mpro is an ideal target for the design of drugs against COVID-19. Insights into the inhibitor-Mpro binding mechanism and conformational changes of the Mpro are essential for the design of potent drugs that target the Mpro. In t

Gastroprotective effects of Caragana ambigua stocks on ethanol-induced gastric ulcer in rats supported by LC-MS/MS characterization of formononetin and biochanin A.

BACKGROUND: Caragana ambigua has been the part of the dietary routines of the regional people in south-west Pakistan and has traditionally been used for the treatment of diabetes there. There is an increased production of reactive oxygen species in diabetics, leading to gastrointestinal disorders. Natural antioxidants exhibit gastroprotective effects owing to their free-radical scavenging action. C. ambigua possesses appreciable phenolic and flavonoid content; thus, it has the potential to protect against gastrointestinal disorders (e.g. gastric ulcer). RESULTS: This study reports the anti-ul

Application of COSMO-RS-DARE as a Tool for Testing Consistency of Solubility Data: Case of Coumarin in Neat Alcohols.

Coumarin is a naturally occurring lactone-type benzopyrone with various applications in the pharmaceutical, food, perfume, and cosmetics industries. This hydrophobic compound is poorly soluble in water but dissolves well in protic organic solvents such as alcohols. Despite the extensive use of coumarin, there are only a few reports documenting its solubility in organic solvents, and some reported data are incongruent, which was the direct impulse for this study. To resolve this problem, a theoretical congruency test was formulated using COSMO-RS-DARE for the determination of intermolecular int
